Quote from Wikipedia:
NEC member Delroy Young resigned from running the organisation in November 2007 after his decision to sack his appointed Chairman, Wayne Harling, and two other committee members was overturned by the party NEC.
ends

So decisions regarding the running of YI are subject to NEC approval/interference, are they?
Interesting.

You'd rather Del was the dictator of his own little domain? I don't know what the circumstances around his decision were, but I do know that a lot of YI members - myself included - were not happy with it.

I have no preference in the matter, but I understood - obviously wrongly - that YI ran its own affairs in the way it thought best. Its website says it is run by an elected council, so shouldn't that be the body to overturn unpopular decisions? I'm struggling a little to understand YI's definition of 'independence' if it's willing to jump at the crack of the NEC's whip.

As I understand it, the council will be elected in the future, but to get things up and running Del Young appointed a few people to run it first and used some 'mentors' as advisors too.
