Welcome aboard! As has been said, our key policy on climate etc. is to embrace Nuclear.

You'll see quite a few policies that originated with us turn up elsewhere - we had the idea to sort out inheritance tax (abolish it), the the Vulcan, John Redwood, nabbed it and now even Gordon Brown is taking an interest!

it just seems the 'others' (mainly lib's) seem to offer an 'easier' vote -its safer to vote for them, and as you say, ukip addresses issues that perhaps would be considered taboo by others.
So are you saying that you and possibly your 'liberal' colleagues are starting to express concerns about the current levels of immigration into the UK? Gosh! I hope you're not all closet racists!

When you say 'libs' offering an easier vote do you mean Liberal Democrats specifically, or do you use the small L term generically to denote any broadly lefty party? If you do refer to Lib Dems specificly you encourage me greatly. Most Lid Dem voters vote for them because they percieve them as 'safe' but don't understand what they are really about. Personally I have long argued that UKIP should target Lib Dem voters.

BTW, there are a fair few man made global warming sceptics on this site!

re: nuclear waste, what happens to the by-product?

there is the nuclear station up in scotland, its going to cost millions to decom' it because of the efforts on safety for removing the contaminated surroundings and fabric of the building - the name of the station i forget.

wind farms, they're ok and gaining in terms of efficiency, along with hydro electric and solar energy, not forgetting ground-source heat pumps which can be used but arent. it just seems nuclear is an 'easy' fix?

we also have access to expanding into using green ethanol i believe its called, used in mexico. this isnt been pushed at all here and i dont know why (but thats another issue altogether)

inheritance tax is disgusting, i cannot believe that it exists! the same with stamp duty, no need for it at all.

mind you, i did have an idea, which i believe was suggested in glasgow, all drug addicts should be given birth control, no birth control injection, no methadone. its not like the addict is fit for raising a child.

its almost as if the nation needs something a little draconian and firm to bring it back in line. extradite foreign criminals too...

on the other hand, why are we paying council employee's to 'maintain' (said loosley) our road infrastructure - prisoners should be doing it.

No. What I mean by market failure is where the market fails to provide - e.g services in rural areas.

zak, my lib comment was for the liberal's!

yes, i honestly do think you should aim for them - everyone who i know, everyone i work with and have worked with have pretty much been 'left' influenced and if they have voted (approx 4/5 out of my friends, approx 24-ish people who i see regularly at work, out etc) its been for the lib dems.

conservatives are just viewed as labours b*tch, nothing new and nothing changes, almost an echo from thatcher (unliked by my peers for reasons i do not know) and labour are viewed as bush's b*tch.

i'm going to be reading around the ukip forums, along with other party forums because i want a balanced view from all political groups. but it seems my original, pre-viewing-the-forum view of ukip was somewhat tinted!

thanks

Hey! At least you took the time to find out. I hope some of your colleagues do the same.

Theotherview, allow me to sum up the situation as most on this forum see it.

We have Labour, socialist and authoritarian, loves the EU. They attract a good few people who are left wing or working class. We also have the Conservatives, they stand for exactly the same thing but they gewt the vote from older people, the right wing and the middle class. Then we have the Lib Dems, who again stand for the same thing: they get the vote from students, the hippie-type and people who are very left wing.

So we have three parties that appeal to different demographics, yet stand for exactly the same thing.
In this sense, it is not (as widely believed) a vote for UKIP is a wasted vote. A vote for the main three is a wasted vote, because it doesn't matter what colour his rosette is he will do precisely what his "opponents" would have done.
Therefore, UKIP are the largest political opposition in the country. Unfortunately, the BNP are catching up, which is a horrible thought.

Sorry, OtherView, wind farms are very definitely not ok:

1. They decapite birds, so are bad for environment.
2. They require massive hidden subsidy to be cost-effective.
3. There are times when there is low/ no wind; this is not predictable, so you have to have hot backup on full standby, which means they don't actually replace anything...

Well done for opening the debate on what UKIP is really about theotherview.

Other parties, like Popular Democrats, know full well.

Here's Bannerman: 'If a pollster were to ask us what policy matters most, you know the answer we’d give: the EU. First, second, third…. And last, too.'

That's it! We are all looking forward to these 17 'broad' policies. It's taken a decade to get here so they'd better be good.

But even the top priority EU policy is ill-formed with many, many questions unanswered. UKIP say: we'll get out and save £50billion. But what happens when farmers go bust (they are near it now, even with EU subsidies)? What happens when Europe raises trade barriers? What happens when UK abandons EU environment policies? How does manufacturing suddenly come back -is UK reducing wages? How does UKIP know how the rest of the world will react? Will the mere act of leaving the EU cause a huge recession? UKIP knows none of the answers. Worst of all - what if Britons like the 17 'broad' polices but do not want to leave the EU? If UKIP forces it, then they are no better than the big three and still ignoring and stamping on real people.

I'm curious, what's popular about the Pop dems? How many elected representatives do you have? Close to, if not 0?

Nothing to stop us having our own policies.

This is a market issue.

If you vote for the Party, you agree to the manifesto in its entirety. You can't say 'I only vote for X, Y, Z policies'.
