When interviewed on Daily Politics, Mr Hague also stated that they would be take powers back from the EU, especially in the area of employment and the 'social model'.

Are these limited promises enough to tempt any UKIPpers? It has a far more realistic prospect of short term success than UKIP getting Britain out of the EU. On the other hand it stops far far short of what most people here would like to see.

If they had promised a referendum on EU membership entirely, it might be a different matter though.

UKIP has to push it's domestic agenda as well. We need to point out that the Tories have committed themselves time and time again to continued membership of the EU. They have ruled out leaving. We need to say that it is great the Tories are pledging to hold a refrendum, but that any politician would be forced to do so if enough votes were at stake. Any eurosceptics should not be tempted to move back to the moderate words of pro-EU eurosceptics but stand firm, showing that in order to win their vote will require an even harder line.
In addition to this we should use our domestic agenda to attack Cameron and the other parties. Lower taxes, grammar schools, education vouchers etc etc. We need to show voters that a vote for UKIP is about more then just the EU but for personal freedom as well.

It is a long established principle of British politics that no government can bind its successor. Hague would know that, he's been in politics long enough. He can promise what he likes, in the unlikely event the Tories ever return to power. But as soon as Liebour regained power they could tear up Hague's precious law, and steamroller through any pro - EU legislation they liked.

His party has spent 30 years giving the powers of the UK government to a 'grateful' Brussels. Somehow I just don't see the high priests of the cult of intergration in Brussels bending over backwards to accomodate Hague's wishes. Basicaly I see only two ways (three possibly) of forcing Brussels hand. One: withhold our payments to the EU. Two: threaten outright withdrawral (Hooray!). Three: block or attempt to block all legislation in the EU. As we only have about 8% of EU 'paliament' votes this will be tricky.

This whole thing is an attempt to hoodwink the public over the EU issue. Again. Doubtless Hague is hoping to stop a few Tory votes drifting to UKIP.

I think he peaked at 16, and should have kept his job as a draysman, drinking 16 pints of beer a day. He'd probably make more sense after 16 pints than he does when sober, judging by the pathetic drivel he's currently coming out with.

The Tory tergivisation over the EU will continue.
