Default UKIP policy on obesity

Interesting story in the Telegraph

Scotland is second in the world for obesity - Telegraph

Funny how politicians of most parties think that it is their job to do something about obesity. So we get the calls for healthier school meals, more PE etc.

So - what is UKIP policy of obesity?

It should be to stop pandering to little brats in school by not allowing them to dictate what they will or won't eat for lunch, be it burgers and chips, packed lunches or leaving school grounds to buy junk food. When I was at school we ate what we were given, we considered ourselves fortunate for having a couple of choices on the menu and relished our Friday lunches where we could choose to eat chips instead of boiled potatoes. Us kids had a similar system at home, it was unheard of for mothers to dilly dally around preparing different meals, it was one meal choice or bed! On average there was only one fat kid in each class unlike today where nearly half of them are big fat bloaters.

Should it? I think it should be the parents decision. I think it should have sweet FA to do with the state.

I can't name a single fat person in any of my a-level classes.

I disagree. Where parents are failing to bring up their children properly (in this case by allowing them to get fat), it is the duty of the state to intervene.

However, I strongly agree that it is not the state's business to nanny adults.

I think that school children should be required to eat what is put in front of them or go without.

As far as I can remember, there is no specific UKIP policy on obesity.

So do I

but reading this thread shows the lack of understanding by some, food is converted to energy, and unfortunately due to health and safety and the cotton wool state, kids are not doing enough exercise, and spend too much time with play stations etc.

Schools need to get back to sweating the kids in proper old fashioned PE (that should be state intervention) and parents need to reduce or restrict access to couch potato video games and get them into sport clubs or youth clubs that are not so bothered about health and safety and let them experience some rough and tumble

It should not be the duty of the state to do much at all. It should do as little as possible.

At least, unless you are a statist. Are you?
Perhaps you are in the wrong party.
