Nope, sorry, the State has to ensure some standards. I don't want to see children indoctrinated by corporate ******** just because they heavily sponsor a school/schools.

But kids today are missing out all this thanks to this nanning bloody govenment that doesnt want to upset the kids tough!! loseing never did me any harm.
Schools still do PE, still do cross-country and still do 1500m runs. Which is a shame, because it meant I rarely got to play sports I like (cricket, tennis & badminton) at school.

The kids at our local school are not fat anymore. the school introduced new healthy meals which are unappealing, so the kids have voted with their feet and take up has dropped alarmingly . The parents are complaining the kids come home starving instead !
Veelad is correct about PE - Rugby, Football, Hockey, Cross Country, Volleyballl, Basketball, netball & swimming a few times a week would be better than messing with the food on offer..

Why would you send your children to a school like that?

We also have to consider that many schools have lost their playing fields etc. to housing sell offs. An absolute scandal in my opinion.
There is some form of exercise every child can do. Whether it is a long walk, swimming or boxing. While the school has the child then it is the schools responsibility and charge to teach the child not just the standard subjects but things such as teamwork and health and fitness.
These things help to make a more rounded individual fit to take a place in a civilised society.

Agreed! But forcing a child to compete when it is quite obvious they'll be beaten out of sight every single time is without a doubt humiliating for the child. I well remember the children I went to school with being laughed at because they always came last!

Builds character and then they can join the LibDims

Sport at school and the treatment of pupils is dependant on the staff.
Those that can do the job properly would split groups up on ability and help the less athletic

Good to know that UKIP doesn't seem to have a policy. Hope that continues.

My view, FWIW, is that head teachers should be able to make up their own minds about policy regarding school meals, PE, etc, without government interference.

(Does this make me a libertarian? )

I also suspect that what schools do has very little to do with obesity rates. It is far more about what kids do out of school - and about their genes.

Separating the state and the school could be seen as a consequentialist libertarian policy.
