Default Doing anything during the General Election campaign?

Tonight I am speaking at Witney Branch of UKIP.

I am seeking to be the PPC. I fought the seat last time and, on a first time out, got 1356 votes/2.5% of the votes cast.

There are 2 candidates tonight, myself and Count Nikolai Tolstoy-Miloslavsky. Nikolai has fought 4 elections previously, a by-election in Barnsley East and Wantage, the neighbouring constituency, in 1997, 2001 and 2005.

If I am successful, are there any forum members, not committed elsewhere, who would like to sleep on my floor during the GE campaign and join in the battle to unseat David Cameron. All I can offer is blood, sweat and tears and a bad back.

I would also like to know if anybody can help with funding (PM me).

The Witney Constituency will be covered extensively during the campaign since Cameron is, as we all know, the PM in waiting.

Good luck. What will be your angle in the election? I guess in a true blue area it needs to focus on solid conservtaive policies like tax, grammar schools, EU, etc. which Dave has ditched and distanced himself from.

I attended a public (UKIP) meeting where he spoke once, and he began by telling a joke referring to 'disgusting lesbians'. Had there been any press present, the party would have been crucified. I actually found it pretty offensive (and I don't offend easily), but also the sheer stupidity of making such a statement in a public arena scared me. No one else in the room seemed to notice....

Whatever his other merits, he is a potential media liability along the lines of Frank Maloney IMHO.

Harry,

You've been on the forum a long time so know my views on a lot of things.

I am libertarian, small government, flat taxes, personal choice, more powers at local level, selective education, but, as a mildly left person, pro-NHS and pro-welfare state (restructured and not available to newcomers who haven't contributed). I believe in less laws properly enforced and would support capital punishment in the most extreme cases if a free vote came before Parlaiment. If allowed to introduce one law it would be the right to defend your own family and property from all comers. I'm ex-military and would want to restore the military to a level that would prevent overstretch every time there is a minor fracas.

I would unravel a lot of 'bans' and emphasise the freedom of the individual.

Lonng-term migration would have to be strictly controlled, but we should favour fairer allocations of visas/work permits to encourage more people to work for short periods to match our national needs.

There's a lot more in my posts.

Anthony, Guess which candidate, because of his'famous' name is favoured by people higher up?

Obviously I oppose continuing membership of the EU.

Scores on the doors:

Tolstoy:

2005 Wantage 798 (1.5%) Turnout 68.2% Cons 43%
2001 Wantage 941 (1.9%) Turnout 64.5% Cons 39.6%
1997 Wantage 465 (0.8%) Turnout 78.2% Cons 39.8%
1996 Barnsley East 378 ( 2.1%) Turnout 33.7% Labour 76.4%

Wesson

2005 Witney 1356 (2.5%) Turnout 69.5% Cons 49.3%

Famous name helps a lot.

He isn't famous, AFAIK. He is just well known in a few limited circles.

Yes, but he's got friends prepared to fund libel actions which he then loses and refuses to pay up on, even when he inherits enough to pay the money back.

Lord Aldington died vindicated but without a penny in contributions from Tolstoy.

Presumably somebody thinks those friends might fund his election campaign (and others?)

Good interview by Pravda. Selection process tonight by middle-classes.

I would agree with all of that except capital punishment so good luck
