Tom Wilde is just starting out
Default UKIP and the Europe Minister

Seems there was an interesting interview yesterday on BBC World At One. Europe Minister Jim Murphy got a grilling about the 'EU Reform Treaty' and the lack of a referendum on it. The transcript is up on the website of the British Embassy in Oslo (!). Read the whole thing - it is well worth it for Murphy's dishonest wriggling when confronted with straight questions.

Quizzed about the mounting pressure for a referendum from the GMB (his own union), the Tories etc, Murphy responds:

Quote:
Well we will continue to have a conversation with the GMB. But in a country where the UKIP gets 2.6 million votes in the last European election of course there's an anxiety about Europe but we've made it very clear in the treaty that the UK will not give away important areas of sovereignty to the European Union. In fact what's very clear every member state has said that the constitutional approach has been abandoned. There will be no European Union constitution. That's now no longer on the table at all.

He says "There will be no European Union Constitution. That's now no longer on the table at all."
