Radio debate on Welsh language cancelled

A BBC Radio 4 debate has been cancelled after the refusal of four panellists to defend Welsh language policy.
North Wales Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom, a representative from the National Eisteddfod and solicitor Nic Parry yesterday confirmed they would not be participating. Their decision followed that of the chair of the Welsh Language Board, Meri Huws, who confirmed on Monday she would not be taking part.
They had been due to participate in a debate with former Ukip candidate and socialite Sir Dai Llewellyn in the current affairs debate programme Hecklers next week.
Sir Dai, originally from Aberdare, believes the promotion of the Welsh language is hurting social cohesion and the economy in Wales. He cited “xenophobic nationalism” as a reason why he sold his Welsh home.
A BBC spokeswoman said she was disappointed the debate would not take place.

Couldn't they get someone in who would stand up for the policy? I guess these plebs aren't used to going up against someone who will speak their mind.
