Default Rename British Democrats

If UKIP (I think a lot of people agree) do poorly in the next GE or European Election will it be time to maybe merge or completely rebrand? Or is that time now.

I thought of the name British Democrats, I think its not bad considering I just thought of it. UKIP the name carries with it the same old cranks and gadflies tone.

Or maybe drop the British tag and go for the catchy "English Democrats!"

The UK is an outdated concept only kept alive to ensure the English can subsidise all the others.

You mean we could be like The English Democrats and recognise the EU regions of Wales and Scotland and their parliaments/assemblies?

The UK is the foundations that our nation has prospered and will continue to do so outside of EU control as The UK

I recognise Scotland and Wales as nations. If they wish to be Euro Regions it should be up to them.

The UK worked in the past, when we really were united, but it is now finished.

The Scots and Welsh are on the road to independance whether we like it or not. Bribing them to stay part of the UK (Barnett formula etc) has slowed this down, but they will become independant.

If we stop "bribing" them will the minority wanting indepedence become a majority in your opinion? I can't see it happening if England & Ulster decide to become an independent nation state outside the EU. Or are the benefits of EU membership so great that the loss of the "bribes" won't matter?

British Democrats was always my favoured alternative name too.

Default 'Democrats'

It sounds rather similar to Liberal 'Democrats' - just about the last group of people I would want voters to confuse anti-EU campaigners with.

True, but it is a serious name and as close to what the party should stand for as possible.... hence the name of this forum

Default UKIP policy on devolution

UKIP is right to call for the abolition of the present Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly.

We must oppose the rival Parliament in Edinburgh and the rival so-called 'Parliament' in Brussels.

The UKIP policy of dual-purpose MPs replacing the present devolution mess cooked up by the europhile Labour/Liberal Dim parties is an interesting one. It would result in MPs handling matters specific to their own parts of the UK (instead of the costly Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly doing it) and the same people dealing with national legislation. Devolved matters and national UK matters would remain linked together in being handled by the same legislators elected by the same people.

Europhiles are behind both the current devolution mess brought about by the pro-EU Blair/Brown/Labour/Liberal Dims - and the threat to these islands from the meddlesome power-hungry regime in Brussels.

Default 'Democrats', Liberal Dims, UKIP

Yes, I'm sorry Anthony. As you mention, the name of this forum is also a little like 'Democrat'. I am just concerned about the word 'Democrat' because the europhile Liberal Dims - the party most opposed to the views of anti-EU people - are officially called the Liberal 'Democrats'.

However, they (the Liberal 'Democrats') have no automatic right to exclusive use to the word 'Democrats' and, indeed, must be a bit annoyed that the English Democrats use it too.

Perhaps the Liberal Dims would be even more annoyed if UKIP changed its name to the British Democrats or to the Independent Democrats.

I don't know how the Liberal Dims have got the nerve to use the word 'Democrats' in their name. Whatever they are, it's not democratic. If they had their way we'd have no democracy left at all in the UK. They would transfer what's left of it to their masters in Brussels. I was quite surprised when the Liberals became the Liberal 'Democrats' after they merged with the fanatically pro-EU SDP.
