Default Tom Wise on Wikipedia

Tom has quite a lengthy entry on Wikipedia, the internet encyclopedia. Anyone is free to amend it, so long as the corrections are factual, sourced and neutral:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom Wise (born on 13 May 1948 in Bournemouth, Hampshire) is a Member of the European Parliament for the East of England for the United Kingdom Independence Party, part of the Independence and Democracy grouping.

He was first elected in 2004. He was UKIP's official spokesman on Culture, Youth, Media and Sport until his suspension by the party in February 2007 amid an investigation [1] by OLAF as a result of his exposure by The Sunday Telegraph for fraudulently obtaining money using a false instrument.

Subsequently The Sunday Times exposed the fact that he had embezzled public money to use for himself, including for the purchase of a French motor car.

In later revelations by The Sunday Times it was established that he had used public money to seek to corrupt the due process of justice and had spent some £8,000 with solicitors seeking to prevent an individual telling the truth about his crimes.

He sits on the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education (CULT). He also is a substitute for the Committee on Fisheries.

He was briefly a police officer and former managing director of a German herbs and spices company, amongst the some 24 jobs he has had from which he frequently boasts of being fired from many of them.

Sees himself as something of a knowledgeable individual in the matter of wines, with a reputation for enjoying a copious quantity, the quality being best judged by price.

He used to be a member of the Liberal Party.

Some of that looks rather libellious to me. But if no one has objected to it then I have no serious objection to it being there.

It is sometimes interesting to click on the "discussion" tag at the top of each Wikipedia page - it takes you to a page where people discuss changes which have been - or should be - made to the entry.

On Tom Wise's discussion page there is only one entry:

Quote:
I removed the following lines as they seem to pretty blatantly violate NPOV (and are unsourced speculation): "Unfortunately EUkip have lacked the moral fibre to seek his resignation as they became embroiled in a series of dubious cover-ups. It is believed by many that Tom Wise has threatened an exposee of EUkip MEPs activities if they cease to harbour him." Terraxos 23:58, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

The term "EUkip" appears in the main entry as well as in the paragraph which has been removed. That might give a clue as to the author.

The BNP have used that term for some time. Others have jumped on that bandwagon, including GLW and chums and various other small parties.

It could be any of them.

Having failed to persuade Jeffrey Titford to employ a whiz-kid reasearcher when he was elected and on occasion afterwards; when TW became an MEP I had a go at him on the same subject. I prepared a list of subjects the researcher should tackle - all matters in this country that would help to promote UKIP. I also suggested that he himself should have two main objectives. The first was to ensure he was re-elected. The second was that when anyone in the Eastern Counties was asked the question,'Who is your MEP?' their immediate reply would be, 'Tom Wise of course'.

At the time I believed that success in the latter would lead to the former. I suspect that will now have the opposite effect.
