LIB DEM MEP CALLS FOR ‘DEFEAT’ OF THE ENGLISH

Eastern Counties MEP, Andrew Duff (Lib Dem) has come under fire over comments he made to the European News Service - EU Business. Talking about the EU Constitution and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s effort to force through a new version, Mr Duff expressed his disappointment that the pro-European countries have ‘failed’ to have more of the first Constitution included in the new draft, in the face of serious opposition from several EU member states led by Britain.
He went on to say: “They are following in the slip stream of the English -- which is the prominent euro-sceptical country. If the English can be defeated then the opposition in Prague will disappear".
The response from another Eastern Counties MEP, Jeffrey Titford (UKIP) has been fierce. “Andrew has gone completely off the rails. His comments read as if he were from another country. He is English himself and is calling for the defeat of his own country. He is also thumbing his nose at the voters in France and the Netherlands who solidly rejected the Constitution in separate referenda. Clearly, Andrew doesn’t believe in the democratic process and does not even support his own country. I very much doubt that the East Anglian voters who elected him in 2004 would approve of his appalling conduct now. With friends like Andrew Duff, Britain doesn’t need enemies!”

Andrew Duff was involved in the writing of the original EU Constitution and has been a leading proponent of its re-emergence. Interestingly, he chose not to mention his role in the development of the EU Constitution in his 2004 European Election leaflet.

Ends

I have to say I am much more interested in just who is going to be doing what this Candidate-for-the-Gallows is suggesting.

Default Duff's O.B.E. should be reconsidered

Duff's Wikipedia entry includes the following statement: "He was a City Councillor in Cambridge from 1982 to 1990 and was Vice-President of the Liberal Democrats from 1994 to 1997. He was awarded an OBE for services to politics in 1997".

Duff is well known in the 'Eastern Region' as an arch-Europhile.

Perhaps, since he has the Order of the British Empire, Her Majesty might be politely asked to review her decision to award him that particular gong.

Queen: "I am very pleased to award you the Order of the British Empire for your outstanding service to politics"

Duff: "We must defeat the English"

-----------------------------------------

P.S. I note that C_steam has posted a brief biography that states that Duff was born in Birkenhead. But with a name like 'Andrew Duff', I strongly suspect some Scottish ancestry along the line somewhere...

QUOTE

Defeat the English? This is treachery!

SIR - The English stand in the way of a united Europe and must be defeated. That is the extraordinary claim of Andrew Duff, a Lib-Dem MEP. Last week he pointed out that Britain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Poland are the European Union members resisting changes to take Europe closer to a superstate.

"The four countries have put themselves apart from the others," Mr Duff said.

He said Britain was playing a leading role in watering down the treaty, which is supposed to be drawn up by 2009 and replace a draft constitution.

The constitution was meant to simplify the way decisions are made as the EU expands by cutting back on the use of a cumbersome majority voting system and putting in place a long-term president.

He said if Britain could be defeated and persuaded to change its stance, the rest would follow. I hope the electorate will treat these traitorous statements deservedly at the next opportunity.

NICK CHANCE, Severn Stoke.

Default Liberal Dims, Duff, Franco-German, EU, UKIP, England

The Liberal Democrats are an anti-English, fanatically pro-EU closet socialist party whose aim is to destroy the Pound and put the governance of our nation into the hands of the Franco-German alliance in the EU.

Every home in the land should get a leaflet with the alleged remarks of Duff about England on.

If the voters knew what the Liberal Dims were really all about they would never support them.

The aim of UKIP should be to replace the Liberal Dim eurofanatics as the 'third' party in the House of Commons and, indeed, throughout British politics.

Absolutely - I mean, why bother with facts when gross stereotyping fits your agenda better?
