After Richard's resignation late last year after the leadership election, I believed then that UKIP had lost a good member & an assett to the party.
I still believe that today!!

I'll second that. Apparently treated very shabbily by 'our' ruling elite.

Well in answer to the earlier question,

1) I didn't know that he had previously been a Conservative PPC, whether after that date their selection procedure changed maybe others may know and enlighten us.

2) The Illtyd Branch of the Vale of Glamorgan Conservative party which contains the only 3 Tory councillors representing wards in the Labour stronghold of Barry seem quite sure that the reason he left the branch and party was his 'then' recent failure (2005?) at the prospective candidates selection weekend that he attended. A successful prospective candidate at that time was coincidentally Victoria Green...mentioned as Richards preferred choice of Conservative candidate in his letter to the Barry and District news.

3) Was he the subject of a smear campaign within UKIP? Having observed the behaviour and conduct of some since joining the party I have no doubt that there quite probably was. Am I an ongoing part of that campaign? No...as I have previously said, I've never met or indeed spoken to the chap, who for all I know might be the nicest guy in the world.

However I do still hold certain reservations over someone who has twice run out on political parties without a fight when challenged, and who appears more bothered about the fortunes of the local Conservative party and their candidates than the one that he purported to hold closest to his heart when running for the leadership!

Why does it matter now? He's gone and hasn't moaned or done anything out of order since going.

Why do people still want to put the boot in? What is the point?

Like many other well-meaning, patriots who are surplus to the ruling clique's requirements.

After his outburst on this forum I'm not sure he was a well meaning patriot!
