From the Chambers Reference Dictionary:

Quote:
fascism noun 1 a political movement or system characterized mainly by a belief in the supremacy of the chosen national group over all others, and in which there is, typically, state control of all aspects of society, a supreme dictator, suppression of democratic bodies such as trade unions and emphasis on nationalism and militarism.
It seems to me that this exactly describes the Labour Party bans on handguns, hunting, using mobile phones in cars and smoking.

Robert Flavell claims that until smoking is banned completely in all public places, he has to sit at home to avoid breathing in the smoke. I suggest Robert Flavell needs to get out more, as there are many places he can go, where smoking has not been allowed for many years. In fact the smoker probably encounters more places where he cannot smoke than places he can, e.g. theatres, concert halls, cinemas, restaurants, hospitals, public buildings, etc.

In my area of Britain, I cannot now find a decent restaurant where I can smoke. The only place left that I can have a meal and enjoy a cigarette afterwards is in the local pub.

However smoking fascists such as Robert Flavell will not be happy until smoking has been completely banned everywhere in Britain, even in your own home.

I notice the next step towards this has already been taken by a call for smoking to be banned in cars on the grounds of 'elf n safety'. I really would like figures on the cause of all accidents and what percentage is actually caused by using a mobile phone or smoking. I think it would show how ridiculous these bans are.

I have a question, will it be illegal to just have a burning cigarette in your hand and not put it to your mouth, just let it burn to the end? or maybe just shove it up the **** of the smoking gestapo!!!!

did you know it will be banned in commercial vehicles from the 1st JULY, I know I will be giving the coppers grief if they try to stop me smoking in my van.

Surely the pro smoking lobby are missing the very essense of the situation here!

Nobody gives a damn whether they smoke or not, or even where, as long as their putrid stinking health harming fumes don't go over other people.

It doesn't really get any simpler than that!

Until they invent a cigarette that doesn't give off uncontrollable smoke that non smokers have to unwillingly share, then expect to finally get the bums rush for your own ignorance in not giving a damn about others civil liberties.

And this is also being polite.

If you are a smoker you quite clearly appear to have never noticed that the smoke from your fags have extensively gone all over those who do not wish to smoke, thus reinforcing my earlier comment about smokers ignorance.

One wonders if you really should be in charge of a lit flame displaying this dire level of lack of observation.

This is blatantly untrue, otherwise separate smoking and non-smoking areas would have been allowed under the new law, instead of the blanket ban that there will be. Also why are they advocating banning smoking in private cars, even if only one person is present?

Admit it all you anti-smoking fascists, you will not be happy until all smoking is completely banned.

Actually I'll only be happy when I don't have other people covering me with their smelly fag smoke in a public place after decades of having to put up with it.

As for smoking and non smoking areas, despite the claims of the salesmen, there is not a an air cleaning or filtering unit yet devised that is likely to keep a supposed non smoking area free from the **** coming from the smoking area.

Are you really surprised that many non smokers don't give a damn about the ignorant smokers who have covered us with their **** for years now feeling the pinch?

Its time to think of others for once in your lives, live with it, and get over it!

I note that you have not actually answered the points I made - just repeated your out-of-date complaints about being covered in smoke in public places. As I have said before:

Quote:
Robert Flavell claims that until smoking is banned completely in all public places, he has to sit at home to avoid breathing in the smoke. I suggest Robert Flavell needs to get out more, as there are many places he can go, where smoking has not been allowed for many years. In fact the smoker probably encounters more places where he cannot smoke than places he can, e.g. theatres, concert halls, cinemas, restaurants, hospitals, public buildings, etc.
stathen also says:

I did say separate smoking and non-smoking areas. If they are separate, they do not rely on air-filters to keep the air clean in the non-smoking area. I realise that not all buildings would be able to have separate areas, but they should be allowed in the buildings that can cater for them.

I also note that stathen is more concerned about the smell than the health aspects of breathing second-hand smoke. Have we now got to the point where anyone causing unpleasant smells has to be banned from public places? If so, then there are many other activities and people that could be banned. Personally I don't enjoy being close to:

people, whose breath smells of drink or garlic
people who use strong-smelling aftershave or perfume
people who haven't washed recently
smelly socks
etc. etc.

I'm sure other people can add to this list. When are these people going to be banned from public places?
