Thinking along those lines then your suggestion of the imposition of smoking once again in all public areas including the workplace would presumably make you a fascist also.

So I guess that we must both be fascists, well heres one who is just about to goose step all the way up to my nice smoke free local, I'll pass on your regards to the little group of wheezing saddo's huddled in the doorway as I squeeze past.

I'd laugh too, if it wasn't for the fact I live in and fear for the place.

No just you. Just hope it isn't drink that is next on the health fascists agenda, because then you won't have much cause to go to the pub then.

I have given these forums a rest for a while and this is the first thread I have viewed.

More and more I find myself wanting to break the laws of this country just so I can feel at ease with myself. No doubt that great feeling of the Great British lock in will be replaced with a late night smoke in. I can just imagine the scene. 1 AM, pubs virtually empty and the landlord scans the remaining clientele and decides to suggest a smoke in.

Of course the pub police are trawling the area looking to protect consenting adults from themselves. Ready to smash down the door and arrest a smoker.

I could go on about filling a house with smoke while the kids have little choice or the thick mother to be, puffing away ready to give you a earful of obscenities if you dare to ask about the rights of her unborn child who has no choice.

It's simple. Landlord chooses and so do you. Hate throwing the fascist thing around but can't think what else to say.

Default Smoking enforcement officer in Derbyshire

I've read of at least one local council in Derbyshire (Labour-controlled) taking on recently a "Smoking Enforcement Officer" and assistant for the annual cost of nearly £45, 000.

The job of the person will include the task of visiting various public places to remind people about the smoking ban.

What a waste of public money.

My view isn't represented on the poll: that pubs should be required to provide at least one smoke-free room. There could be stipulations on the size of such an area relative to the total size of the pub, to prevent abuse.

This would make all pubs with more than one room acceptable to both smokers and non-smokers.

Pubs would be free to ban smoking altogether on their premises if they wished.
