I was very impressed by NF's performance-- just the publicity that UKIP needs . He was reasonable, knowledgeable (impressed by his knowledge of the slave trade's history) and to the point. He also didn't fall into the trap of constantly interrupting people and listened carefully to what people had to say. No rambling claptrap from him either, unlike Ms Blears's bouts of logorrhoea.I especially like the way he pointed out that we should be celebrating the fact that Britain and its navy ended the slave trade (our apology for it if you think about it)-- rather than wringing our hands over it. Britain's ending the slave trade is indeed "a proud moment of our history" as NF said, and I feel that is what the 200-year anniversary is about. As a side note Lord Carey was impressive too; I didn't agree with quite everything he said, but he spoke a lot of sense with good humour too. PS: Great mini-documentary on C4's political slot last night too NF. |

I thought Nigel did alright but it wasn't his best performance i have seen, i thought his answer on the Iran issue was politically naive by saying the Cornwall should have opened fire on the Iranians i think a more diplomatic stance could have been taken.
As for Lord Carry he should be kicked out of the lords if he cant be bothered to attend and vote(preferring to go to the pictures) on such an important moral issue as introducing mega Casinos. I liked Nigel's answer on this Local referendums on whether the people want them. |

I actually think that it was one of Nigel's best ever performance because he was speaking on a wide number of issues that are rarely addressed by UKIP. Naturally he wasn't quite as commanding as when he is talking about Europe but he was still extremely confident and articulated his points very well.
The average viewer would have seen Nigel as a serious political figure with strong and sensible views on a wide number of issues not simply the leader of a single issue fringe party. |

I think Farage came out well. He has lost quite a lot of his "agressive-man-in-a-hurry" persona, and the smiling and general ease was very good. He seemed relaxed. Someone who did not realised who he represented said to me, "I think he speaks a lot of sense!". Shows what can be done.
The best line is "Do you want New Labour, or Blue Labour? They're so close it makes no difference!" - That line needs repeating, OFTEN! Conservative Vice-Chairman Sayeedi Warsi was visibly upset, by that I mean "******, we've got a problem here!"

I though Nigel Farage came across well and confdent, albeit still strident in his comments. Although shrill stridency didn't do Margaret Thatcher too much harm.
The audience appreciated what Nigel had to say and applauded him more than any of the others, so he had a knack of saying the things those people, at least, wanted to hear. No bad thing either. What surprised me was how weak the Tories came over via Warsi, missing chances to hammer Blears, or Farage for that matter. Proving the point of how close Labour and Tories have become. Most important, Farage came over as 'reasonable'. If he can develop that behaviour, a lot of the folks who see UKIP as frighteningly Right Wing and uncaring, might change their minds. A bit of caring left wingness won't do Farage any harm either. |
