NEC Election Claims

In his NEC election address "Cllr Stephen Povey" states "I am a UKIP councillor and Mayor of my hometown"

This is a good vote catcher for unsuspecting UKIP members who believe this .... but it is totally untrue.

1. He has always made it clear that he is not a UKIP Mayor.
2. He was elected as a "Ratepayer's " candidate.
3. It says on the Council web site that he is a "Ratepayer's" councillor.
4.The Council say "He still is a Ratepayer's Councillor"
5. Could this be the reason he refused (or failed to make the time) to open the UKIP Conference in Telford despite being the Chairman of the West Midlands Region?

If you look at his advertised web site (see the final words of his address) you will see him with the MAYOR'S chain round his neck (looking guilty)

THIS IS A MAN SAYING HE WANTS TRUTH IN UKIP. So I suggest he starts with himself.

We have had this problem before with Ashley Mote and Janet Gursman and there is no room in UKIP elections for votecatching untruths like this (both were disqualified).

As an employee of ukip/ind group call it what you like i don't think it is very fitting of you to come on here and slag off a NEC candidate. This couldn't be because he stood up to you and Mike over the Dennis Brookes calamity.

How long will it be before you try to dig dirt on Dennis.
Personally i think he is using his position as Councilor and Mayor to benefit Ukip but i suppose if you have some personal vendetta against the man you wouldn't see it that way.

I take it that your posting above, is the official position of the Ind Dem / UKIP. As a paid employee / spokeswoman what you are publicly stating I presume and others also, to be officially sanctioned, by your boss MEP Mike Nattrass .

Therefore to avoid confusion can you confirm that the drivel in the first posting is an official statement, or your own personal statement of opinion?

Phew! Thank goodness for Nikki's post!!

I was really worried that this NEC election was going to be fair and good natured, with no backbiting and dirty tricks.

It seems I needn't have worried and "situation normal" has returned.

Nice to know the inner and higher echelons can be relied upon!

Firstly, I do not work for UKIP or the 'Ind Dem' group.

As a member of UKIP whose National Executive Mr Povey is seeking to be elected to - I have as much right as any other member to express MY opinion and share facts. My opinions does not/should not relect on any other indvidual.

I have checked my facts with Ms Thompson, a senior person in Electoral Services of Staffordshire Moorlands Council. She has confirmed that Mr Povey was ELECTED under the banner of 'Ratepayers Group' and has NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO CHANGE HIS STATUS WITHIN THE COUNCIL.

Therefore, his statements are untrue and deserved to be publised as such

The scurrilous posting from Miss Sinclaire is unworthy of someone who purports to be the 'Political Advisor' to Mike Nattrass MEP.

A single phone call to the Leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Cllr. Ron Locker, established that Steve Povey is a UKIP councillor and is the UKIP Mayor of Leek.

Another call to Steve reveals that he was elected as a Ratepayers' Group councillor at the last election but changed to UKIP four months later. The council has recorded this but he is shown on the council website as a Ratepayers' Group councillor as it is necessary to have two or more of one party in order to be classed as a group. It is not possible, therefore, to be shown as a UKIP councillor on the site.

Regarding the Telford Conference, Steve made it plain that he could not attend any of it as he was already booked as Mayor to travel to Italy on a twinning trip. Whilst there he was invited to the Vatican where he was oficially met by one of the Pope's cardinals.

Steve stood in Staffordshire Moorlands at the 2005 General Election as a UKIP candidate and polled 7.94% - the second highest vote for UKIP in the country. Altogether a fine record of achievement.

Miss Sinclaire is well-known to have but a passing relationship with veracity and has managed to excel herself this time. If she is really concerned with democracy and truth she could write to the Party Chairman and ask why four Farage-supporting candidates have been allowed to have a full page 'advertisement' each in the Independence magazine to the detriment of the other candidates in the NEC election.

An excellent post Petrina. thank you for clearing up what can only be described as a poor attempt to blacken Steve's character.

This just goes to show what levels certain people will go to keep decent honest upstanding members from bringing transparency and professionalism to the party..

The facts have been confirmed with Mrs Thompson at the Council offices and I stand by my comments.

Maybe on behalf of Steve Povey, Petrina could confirm that Mr Povey will be standing for re-election in May as a UKIP candidate instead of his current party and I look forward to her reply.
