Not only that, but the word 'Liberal' is taking on an increasingly negative context these days, and is often associated with the 'do-gooders' everyone loves to hate.

Libertarianism has too many negative conotations, the worst being licentiousness sponsored by the state! That's why in an old post I preferred the name County Liberals.

UKIP's been claiming it's a libertarian party for over 2 years now.

But it's incapable of pursuing any theme determinedly and consistently, partly because everything has to be cleared through busy, defensive and not brilliantly bright MEPs.

So evidently nobody's noticed.

"UKIP - the party that takes liberties"

Oops, sorry - "UKIP - the party that takes liberties seriously"

UKIP much like the Conservative party seems to be a party ran by Libertarians but mainly composed of Conservatives and Nationalists.

Who are you? Are you this bitter and tedious in real life?

I think that we have enough threads around at present to discuss the various woes; do you think that you could take your vitriol over there, please?

Minarchist libertarians, as opposed to anarchist libertarians, used to be known as Classical Liberals. However, as has been pointed out, the word liberal has become debased, not least by its association with the very far from liberal LibDems.

UKIP's policies are, essentially, based on a libertarian stance on both social and economic matters. I have found their policies reasonably consistent in both spheres (I was able to predict, for instance, UKIP's stand on the "gay adoption" story).
