Quote:
Ukip leader Nigel Farage works too hard. Rival Euro MPs were enjoying an evening of Guinness and Celtic muzak in Strasbourg's Irish-themed pub Murphy's House, behind the cathedral, when they discovered an "extremely weary" Farage at the bar.

They rushed to help their stricken colleague, or, as one eyewitness put it, "fell over each other taking pictures on their mobile phones". Farage's minders fended off the amateur paparazzi. His group wobbled home.

"He was in a state when he got there and kept nodding off," says a witness. "He was 'assisted' out of the place by two of his staff. The last time I saw him he was being dragged down the road. I don't know how he got in [the bar] in the first place, let alone how he got home."

Pandora rang Farage to ask if he had a good night out, and to promise to obtain and publish the pictures, to make sure his hard work becomes a matter of public record. "Ha ha, er, thank you."

Farage explains: "I had got up at three o'clock that morning. I was doing something the night before and hardly had any sleep. It had been a long day and then I'd been for dinner." Once at Murphy's, "I ordered one drink and didn't even touch it by that point. Discretion played the better part of valour."

But were you carried out by your colleagues, Nigel? "Ha ha, I, er, think that's a bit of an exaggeration ... I had absolutely had it, certainly. I was dead meat by that stage of the day. It was an error to have walked into there in the first place. I was completely gone. I had a couple of drinks and I was done for."

Happens to us all!

It's a bit of a sleazy rag though, isn't it? Especially the "Pandora" column.

Attacks from both wings of the establishment media now. Are they trying to say he was ******?

If so, BIG DEAL.

If they really are just reporting he was knackered.

BIG DEAL.

It doesn't look great though that he apparently changed his story from "haven't touched a drop" to "just a couple". I don't think that anyone cares about people having drinks and enjoying themselves, but dishonesty is a different matter altogether (if it is true).

Did he change his story though? He said he had been to dinner earlier, which in Strasbourg means a meal with wine at least. Then he went into the bar and ordered a drink but hadn't touched it by that time. The 'couple of drinks' could have been earlier.

I have no idea - it is in a paper so it barely has a 50/50 chance of having happened at all, let alone resembling the truth.

However, it is always the perception that matters, and I interpreted that article to mean that he changed his story when questioned about why he was allegedly carried out... but where is the photographic evidence mentioned? Surely they would have used it if they could?

I though the Grauniads attack piece on the BNP Balerina was the most pathetic I have ever seen. This reaches epic new lows of pathetic.

I wouldn't trust the Independent at all, especially on stories about the EU or UKIP. Even if there is an element of truth in the suggestion that he was drunk, we only have their word for what he said and they are IMHO completely unreliable.

No, not unreliable: malicious. (In my opinion. :x )

Hey don't knock it - being attacked in the papers for trivial matters is a real step up.
