I read somewhere that the EU regulations are not needed for British fishermen because they already fish in a dolphin-friendly way, but some other EU countries' fishermen do not.

Okay, sorry, should have posted here before.

We voted against it because the EU wanted to harmonise drift nets, what they were, the size etc. and because the report was in favour of the Common Fisheries Policy which has done more to harm the British fisheries industry, fish stocks in our waters and 'EU' fishing stocks, and because it encourages the raping of the fishing stocks of the developing world instead of encouraging these countries to maximise these resources and trade.

All in all, a good decision, I think.

Plus tuna sandwiches always taste nicer if there's a slight tang of dolphin to them.

English fishermen in the English Channel try to avoid getting dolphins trapped in their nets - but I read that French fishermen do not bother to try to avoid trapping them.

I agree. Benign sounding measures like protecting dolphins are the means by which the EU extends its control. UKIP has an important role in opposing such measures.
