I would say that their being there has made a major difference to keeping opposition to the EU alive in the UK and across the EU. No longer is opposition to the EU regarded as totally freaky even in the mainstream media.

If it wasn't for UKIP, the only voices against further Union would be the few Tories, who are allowed to say things to keep the perception of eurosceptism in Blue Labour alive.
Farage ******* of Blair alone was worthwhile to me. For me the only things UKIP should be doing there, is digging up dirt and making it look bad. That is it.

Having UKIP in Brussels - in the EU headquarters; on EU 'Parliament' committees and available to give interviews to the media presence covering EU proceedings - is the very last thing that the EU (and its supporters in the UK and elsewhere) want. |

However, none of this answers the question of why they are contemplating, considering and then voting one way or the other on general EU legislation. The only possible reason would be if they voted a standard 'no' to all legislation because they don't want the EU to legislate, which would be a defence in this case, but I don't believe they do. The performance of the UKIP MEPs has been the single greatest cause of my disillusionment with the party. |

I agree. Dolphins are wonderful, and there are recorded cases of them protecting shipwrecked mariners from sharks.
Surely UKIP's main aim in this area - allowing UK fishermen to catch enough fish to make a living - must be compatible with ensuring the safety of dolphins? I think this is another Tory smokescreen, but it demonstrates the need for a sensible, well-thought-through fisheries policy covering sizes of catches and types of nets. |
