Default Peter's Hitchen's blog mention of UKIP

Mail on Sunday columnist Peter Hitchens has a web blog, where he posts weekly essays about politics and related issues.

Part of one of his blogs warns against voting against the "Useless Tories". He talks about other parties, and gives this advice about UKIP:
"Vote UKIP if you want to, though they are a bit of a Dad's Army and not likely to get anywhere"

Dad's Army party? That's so 1990s Mr Hitchens, get with it

Any thoughts on his comments? Full blog can be found http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co....pondence_.html , the offending UKIP comment under the "Useless Tories-- another attempt to explain" section .

Perhaps a few helpful comments placed on his blog will change his mind--I've submitted mine already!

I can sympathise with his position that no real Right alternative will appear until the Tories are six feet under.

I don;t understand Hitchens. He is against the EU and yet he refuses to believe any party other than the big 3 will or can do anything about it. He seems to blank UKIP outright and refuses to say anything constructive.

He also has a patronising tone of voice and comes across as defeatist. He almost likes to have the EU as an issue to bang on about. He talks as if we are never going to leave. On top of all that he look slike a thinderbird puppet which is not good.

He did a programme on TV a couple of years ago about the EU. The programme was very against but his style of presenting did the cause no favours. In fact i think it did damage as he came across as the kind of nasty person the media were trying to portray UKIP members as.

I think he needs a visit from Nigel, a nice lunch perhaps. But i fear he will just continue to stand at the side and provide unhelpul commentary.

Hichens would moan who ever was in power.
He offers no solution to the problems we face.
I have read most his books and you can tell he still remains a Liberal on the inside.

That's gushing praise from Hitchens.

Hitchens does annoy me.

Two sides to being a great, or at least effective, leader is firstly to identify the problem, then offer a solution. Hitchens is excellent and arguably unsurpassed in identfying the issues, but unfortunately lacks in offering any practical and effective solutions.

If he did join UKIP and become a leading member he would have not only great influence, but would be a welcome leader through his insight, knowledge and intelligence. He would also be able to shape and develop UKIP policy.

But of course, how would Tory-backing Mail on Sunday like its leading columnist backing the dangerous UKIP threat?

Seriously, that is a massive move in the positive direction.

That would make me Pike I guess.

Don't tell them your name, Pike!

All mention of UKIP, whether positive or negative puts the party more and more into the same league as the other parties. All parties suffer criticism, and I think that it is advantageous to UKIP at the moment, even if it is slightly negative.

Of course, whether UKIP wants to be associated with the other parties is another matter.

Hitchens typically advises people to vote "none of the above" so it is indeed high praise if he says vote UKIP with any kind of qualification. I would love to see an interview of Farage by Hitchens. Both great debaters, I think.
