This is my favourite quote:

LOL I just bought up some minor details that challenged what they said; they didn't like that, too much like having a reasoned debate

To those redirected from:

Hitchens at it again: http://www.democracyforum.co.uk/view...asc&highlight=

Peter Hitchens does speak sense though, UKIP is being perceived as a party for disgruntled Tories. It needs to broaden its appeal a bit more. I've got a fair bit of Left in me (though do not consider myself Left-Wing!) and still support UK withdrawal from EU.

But! This, from Peter Hitchens:

Quote:
I am not hostile to UKIP.
Is an absolute achievement!

If left means opposed to PFI and the like, then I'm one of them too.

To a certain extent yes, but not opposed to the idea of public/private co-operation. also Left in the support of anti-monopoly (anti-trust) laws, protectionism to a certain degree of local and small business, nationalised control of key utilities (gas, electric, water, as well as nuclear) and opposition to the exploitative nature of globalisation to name but a few. Support free education and not necessarily supportive of cutting of all taxes - but do support the reduction of the state and cutting of particular taxes (i.e. inheritance).

I am a supporter of Co-operatism ([url)

Blimey, rambled there a bit. But there you go EUblues! 8)

Many on the left oppose PFI because they are ideologically opposed to private sector involvement. However, for supporters of the free market there are many reasons to oppose PFI too, including: (a) the risk is still effectively borne by the state, thus it negates normal assumptions about the role of private sector investment, profit and risk; (b) the costs are too high due to the nature of the tendering and contract process; (c) the liabilities are kept off balance sheet by the government, thus understating their true impact on the public finances.

Indeed - PFIs stink from the left, right or centre. I've no problem with the state running things and the private sector running other things.

Mix the two in 'partnerships' and you get the worst of both - both inefficiency and rip-offs.
