Default UKIP, Politics and Age

Allegation after allegation is smearing UKIP and supporters and voters of UKIP as a bunch of 'grey, Victor Meldrews'.

The age ranges are just to paint a general picture - is patriotism destined to die out with its aged supporters or is Britain's independent and democratic future in safe hands?

So, let's settle this, what's your age (there's a poll for those wishing to be private!)

Hate to nitpick but in general i suspect younger members will use this forum and so the results will be heavily skewed beyond any meaningful result.

From my expereice recently i have noticed a swell in younger members. This is generally noticable at any large UKIP event. Young people are vital to UKIPs success. It is young people who will pound the streets and energise camapigns. We need to get into Universities in a big way and start recruiting.

The YouGov poll out today gives a split of support for UKIP by age and shows 1% support in 18-34 age group, 5% in 35-54 group, and 7% in 55+ group.

I think the 5% support in 35-54 age group is quite encouraging.

LibDem support declines with age (and wisdom).

Kind of unfair to maturer people though. A recent survey found the leading (and growing) past time of retired people was 'surfing the net'. A lot of people not quite at retirement level and still employed have had to leran a lot about computers fast, so let's give them some credit.

I started this thread as it's become quite clear UKIP is a party with good support from young people, this is promising because unfortunately many young people aren't that active in politics. UKIP also attracts a lot of 30 - 45 year olds, that youngish middle-aged group who still possess that vigour but are also wiser and maturer.

Let's be positive and accept that UKIP has an excellent potential to grow with young people, its freedom and liberating policies can be a great appeal to the youth of Britain who 'just want to get on' without interference and being held back!

Why have you completely ignored eublues post where he gives you opinion poll statistics that state the exact opposite?

Because I think YouGov is incorrect, doesn't provide a realistic breakdown of politics and has a greater effect in influencing people rather than reflecting their intentions.

That answer your question?

Check out the poll SGK.

I agree with SGK.
I have seen precious little evidence myself that a significant number of under-30s are going to UKIP.

It can hardly be a total disaster though can it:

18 or under 10% [ 2 ]
19 - 25 52% [ 10 ]
26 - 35 10% [ 2 ]
36 - 45 5% [ 1 ]
46 - 55 5% [ 1 ]
56 - 65 10% [ 2 ]
65 or over 5% [ 1 ]

Total Votes : 19 (time of writing 19:49 13/02/07)

Whether or not it is only the 'young people on the internet' the above poll hardly disproves my theory that many young people support UKIP.
