Default EUphile Rifkin joins in the abuse of UKIP

Read it all. They really are in a blind panic now. All the old tricks being deployed and to any well read, politically aware person, this man now just looks like scum.

"UKIP poses no threat to the Conservative Party because people understand that withdrawal from the EU, in an age of market integration and political co-operation, is an utterly reckless and untenable proposition. "

UKIP defections 'good for Tories'

Former foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind has said the Conservatives have benefited from defections to UKIP.

Following a switch to the Eurosceptic party by two Conservative peers, Sir Malcolm said that ridding the Tories of "divisive elements" will help prevent a return to party infighting over Europe.

In an article for this week's House Magazine, he wrote: "If some Europhobes wish to defect to UKIP as a result of the Conservative line on Europe, then that only highlights the degree of our reasonableness.

"Shedding some of these divisive elements may even help the Conservative Party avoid the trouble that bedevilled it in the 1990s.

"UKIP poses no threat to the Conservative Party because people understand that withdrawal from the EU, in an age of market integration and political co-operation, is an utterly reckless and untenable proposition.

"Rather the prism through which to view integration should be defined by a moderate Euroscepticism".

Sir Malcolm, who ran unsuccessfully against David Cameron in the last Conservative leadership contest, went on to praise his leader's approach to the EU despite many describing it as very Eurosceptic.

On Cameron's stalled bid to leave the centre right grouping of parties in the European Parliament he said: "The recent Conservative decision to withdraw from the European People's Party to form, along with the Czech Civic Democrat Party, a new bloc in the European Parliament that will champion the cause of an open Europe, is consistent with our attempt to make Europe more responsive to the needs of its citizens.

"It is, without doubt, an audacious move, but only time will tell if it succeeds."
The man is in cloud cuckoo land. UKIP should put this story on the website in my opinion. Any remaining tories who think it is worth staying to try & change them from within should now finally understand that there is no point in doing so.

I love the bit about the EPP withdrawl. It is an audacious move that hasn't even taken place! Time will tell if it even happens before it tells whether it succeeds. My reading between the lines on that is he is not certain that they will manage to get enough other members to form a group and may be forced to stay in the EPP or be non-aligned.

John Bowis MEP,VP of the EPP said last week that he'd bet on the Tories still being in the EPP in 2010.

I always include a footnote on correspondence I send to Tories;

EPP Today,Gone Tomorrow!

Although until 2009 it should read "In the EPP and run by the EPP"

It's not even spin is it! Spin should be subtle and hard to spot.

This is as subtle as a rhino.

Do you have a link/source for that Michael? I would find that very useful as a back up if I use the above quote and someone asks for verification.

Thank you. 8)

Pure Gilbert! To paraphrase The Mikado,
Quote:
It's like this: When your Majesty says, "Let a thing be done," it's as good as done — practically, it is done — because your Majesty's will is law. Your Majesty says, "Leave the EPP" and a MEPs are told off to be separated. Consequently, that membership is as good as dead — practically, it is dead — and if it is dead, why not say so?
