If the promise on the BOO Candidates was part of the reason these two Peers have formally joined UKIP then I'd say it is a price well worth paying. It must have been very galling for Nigel to have to listen to the criticism without being able to properly respond while knowing this coup was in the background. Maybe now idiots like the Plymouth Chairman and all those people harping and criticising Nigel will finally stop and get behind him. (And maybe pigs will fly) Well done Nigel! |

The Plymouth chairman and his members are not idiots. Just because 2 Lords have defected does not mean that UKIP is electable - it certainly doesn't mean that they have the effective workings of a political party in place. It just means that 2 Lords are disillusioned with the Tories and want to make a statement. Once they get an internal view of the shambles that UKIP is, they will decamp as soon as they came. Think: this is the only bit of 'good' news to have been reported in the UKIp cause in ages. Can anyone tell me why I should be encouraged to think UKIP is in any way going forward? I WANT TO BE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT UKIP. It ain't there at the moment - when it is EVERYBODY will want to come.

While this is clearly very good news for UKIP, I wouldn't get too excited just yet:

They are not idiots for leaving. I can understand why people might leave UKIP.
The huge impression they have of themselves and the attemp to make it look worse than it is, makes them pretty close to being idiots though I am afraid. They look stupid now the branch is still there and only 12 people left.

I certainly hope that the Plymouth members are not so shallow that they will return to the fold simply because 2 'personalities' have joined. When UKIP has joined up policies and are able to put them across to the man in the street, then Plymouth and others will gladly come back. I haven't read the posts on Nigel's performance on Any Questions but it was the performance of a man who hadn't been briefed correctly on the question of immigration. What a waste.
