Default Gerard Batten on the cuts in the Royal Navy

http://www.ukip.org/ukip_news/gen12.php?t=1&id=2809

Quote:
THE SCUTTLING OF THE ROYAL NAVY - LABOUR'S SHAME

The Treasury under Gordon Brown plans to cut Britain’s Royal Navy to such an extent that the service will be simply unable to defend our national, trade and maritime interests.

It is a measure of how low the Labour Government has brought this country that if the recently announced cuts are made the French Navy will be bigger, stronger and better equipped that the British Navy. Nelson must be spinning in his grave.

This Government holds our armed forces in contempt. The Government expects them to risk their lives in far-flung theatres of war, while the under-funded and ill-equipped army is expected to live in slums, the RAF is being decimated and now the Royal Navy is to lose half its already inadequate number of vessels.

Labour wastes literally billions of pounds every year on the costs of membership of the European Union, bogus asylum seekers, benefits to Eastern European migrants, unjustified payouts and thousands of non jobs for bureaucrats.

The Government should immediately substantially increase the defence budget, stop these cuts and look to review upwards defence spending based on a long overdue analysis of our real national interests and defence needs.

This strategy fits into the Government's long-term plans to reduce and merge the British armed forces into a European Union defence force that will not be able to act independently of the European Union. Destroying our wonderful and proven regiments to fit into EU regional forces is part of this. The intention is to reduce Britain to the status of a European region with no capability for independent defence.

The first duty of a government is to defend its people. The British Government is now failing to this with any measure of competence or sincerity. It is vital to put our national interests first again.

With the ongoing fight in Iraq and growing instability in the Middle East, this is definitely the worst time to cut back the Royal Navy.

Those "dumb pawns" (sic) have saved our asses on numerous occasions.

Such things as bravery and patriotism are not the prime concerns of your average elitist one-worlder. This is the cynical mentality we are dealing with.

Thanks to their Socialist government they still have Nationalised ship yards where they can build their ships.
If the larger carriers the RN are supposed to be getting are to be built it will be in France.
