The damage is done with the first press release in the national media.

The later press articles are the regional press.

Can we expect a statement on the main BBC website?

Like hell we will.

Some of this is due to age and is understandable, however, many more people join without the slightest intention of doing a hands turn the help the branch.
I thought membership of ukip was an act of support in itself . I was not aware that a member had any obligation to be active in a branch. It is great if they do, but they should not be ostracised if they are not.

Even if no one wants to do it for the right reason a few people who never thought they would get anyway would probably like a little bit of power.
Most Post holders in ukip do it because they are the only ones prepared to do it, and would love to hand over to somebody who is more able, unlike the big three who are happy to cling on even though they know they are incompetent, just look at our current government.

We have lost a few more nutcases, one of whom 'phoned Trixy during the leadership campaign and threatened to break her legs (this is not, shamefully enough, an uncommon thing for her to have to put up with; I have taken some of the calls myself).
I am disgusted at the above, but you made comment in a similar vein about ruth kelly's familly. ukip is now becoming a recognised party, some comment on ukiphome, devils kitchen and yes on here do harm to ukip.
I am a ukipper, but no matter how commited I am to the cause, I am not prepared to break the law or my own standards. please can you and chad tone it down on your sites, and remember that this is an open forum

DK
Whoever it was should be reported to the Police, either that or we form the Trixy Defence Club with members proficient in self-defence.

I just noticed this BBC correction:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6249133.stm

Quote:
'Closed' UKIP branch to stay open
Plymouth members of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) are to keep the branch afloat despite the resignations of senior members.
Tom Williams, chairman of the 160-strong branch, was among a dozen officers and members to quit this week.

Mr Williams said he had formally closed the branch because there were no nominations to take over.

But UKIP said on Wednesday that the branch would continue under Acting Chairman Bill Wakeham.

City 'important'

An annual general meeting would be held within the next three weeks in order to hold the annual election of officers, UKIP said.

The party's acting general secretary Piers Merchant said: "Under our constitution there is a formal process for opening and closing branches.

"This branch has definitely not been closed and there is no intention for that to happen.

"Our members in Plymouth want to continue their activities. The city remains important for us."

Mr Williams has started a new group called New Battle for Britain, which has up to 30 members and hopes to contest 19 seats at next May's local elections.

The rebel group were dissatisfied at the way the party was being run.

I thought the 12 were joining others (from God knows where) to make up the 30.

Dear All,

There have been various unofficial reports concerning Plymouth branch recently and many of you have voiced concern, or have asked whether the reports they have read are correct.

Having checked with Piers Merchant the situation is that 4 or 5 disaffected members of the Plymouth committee have resigned, including the branch chairman. At least one of the disaffected has resigned from UKIP, but will not be missed! One of the others has been in touch with the local press saying that the whole branch membership has also resigned.

This is not true.

An Acting Chairman is in place pending an EGM in the next couple of weeks, when a fully functioning committee will be put in place. The branch, which has about 160 members, is continuing to function normally.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

Kind regards

why, oh why, do UKIP shoot themselves in the foot every time they make a release like this?

Basically it's fine, then they inject a short phrase of negativity which reflects badly on the party, and just puts peoples backs up - and forever ruins any reconciliation.

Quote:

And if that were truly the case, why were UKIP happy for that person to be in a local leadership position in the first place?

UKIP needs to rise above petty vindictiveness.
