Default Torys drop another councilor to UKIP

Another Erewash councillor resigns
ANOTHER Erewash Borough councillor has resigned from the Conservative Party - wiping out the Tories' narrow majority.
Cllr Robert Dockerill resigned last week, following the resignation of cllr Gerry Hartopp, the week before.

The Conservatives now have 25 seats, Labour has 21, the Liberal Democrats have 2 and there are now three independent councillors.

But the leader of the Conservative group, cllr Robert Parkinson, says the Conservatives will still retain their majority.

Cllr Robert Parkinson said: "The Conservative group remains the largest group within council and I am advised by officers that we will still retain the majority.

"I have no reason to suppose that if it comes to a crunch vote cllr Dockerill will support us as he always has done."

"At no stage has cllr Hartopp made any contact with me to express his concerns. The first I knew about his intention to resign was when he did it.

"In the last analysis people are free to act in the way they wish."

Last week a spokesperson for the council said: "Cllr Dockerill has not resigned from the council, he will remain at least until May next year as an elected Independent member but he has resigned from the Conservative Party as of this week."

Labour councillor Dave Morgan said: "Personally I think it was a convenient time for Cllr Dockerill to resign. I think it goes back to what Gerry Hartopp was saying - there is no leadership there."

Cllr Hartopp is considering fighting the next election as a candidate for the UK Independence Party.

After his resignation he criticised the Conservative group for "weak leadership, no vision or dynamic engagement with our customers and partners in the community."

Cameron is going to get what he wants. A Conservative party full of career merchants and EUphiles.

Time all true Conservatives realised this and got the hell out of there. See how he copes with 1/3 of the membership, if that.

Will Conservatives want to join the Libertarian UK Independence Party that is the question.
Only a minority of Conservative party members are Libertarians.

Conservative in what way?

You dont support capital or corporal punishment.
You favour continued immigration.
You support the Liberal idea of Global Free Trade.
You dont wish to restore British Nationalism in the schools.
etc.

Not true. But only a minority of libertarian Tories are willing to leave the Conservatives now that true power seems so close at hand...

Most Tories who join UKIP are probably old-fashioned quasi-Powellite Tories rather than libertarians.

However it's true to say that libertarian members of the Tory Party (mostly ex-FCS) are ultra anti-EU despite their 'unsound' views on immigration etc.

Best to try and keep everybody together against the common enemy.

Exactly.

However Libertarians are more likely to scare people away.
I would have probley joined UKIP if it had not been for the Libertarian stance of the party.

Libertarianism is nearly as bad as Socialism a very dangerous anti-British ideology indeed.
