I thought the Lib Dems were anti-nuclear(?). UKIP is pro-nuclear.

UKIP want welfare budgets to be cut and restructure the tax system to provide greater incentives to work. Lib Dems want to extend the welfare system.

UKIP want zero net immigration, Lib Dems want massive net immigration.

Lib Dems oppose corporal/capital punishment. UKIP believe in a referendum on these issues.

UKIP support global free trade, Lib Dems support the EU's protectionism.

Support for NATO is common to all non-extremist parties AFAIK. Name a non-extremist party that wants us to leave NATO?

UKIP support flat tax, Lib Dems want to tax the rich to get them to move to offshore tax havens and reduce our tax intake.

There are many of us trying to save our Country and this chap is giving up that fight to join our enemy to help get cheaper car parking charges in his area! I do not believe him, he's just looking for a bit of power in my opinion and thinks the local Lib Dems are the way of getting it. I wonder what he'll do with the "30 pieces of silver"! :x
Apart from the European issue their is little between your two parties so its understanable.
Apart from the tax, welfare, NHS, business, immigration, nuclear power and environmental issues?

Come on.
In what way are you different on Welfare or Nuclear Power?

The Lib Dems don't want Nuclear power - I imagine UKIP is prepared to use it.
The Lib Dems want a huge welfare state to tackle 'social justice'. IIRC UKIP accepts the need for a safety net but doesn't want it to be all-encompassing.

How much more different can you get?

This is a ridiculous discussion.

I agree, it is a ridiculous discussion.

Frankly, in my view, if the guy can jump ship in that direction then he was a liability waiting to happen- it's one of the frustrating things about some of the people that are purely motivated by local issues.

When one looks at the policy differences between UKIP and LDs I just do not understand what he was doing in our party. Was he really just an LD plant?

Well he has said more or less as much in the local paper and as a High Street shopkeeper he has a very personal interest in the issue. The Tory council has made itself very unpopular with these charges

Although all my parking fees are refunded by my firm I also find it very irritating to have to fiddle with ticket machines, go for change etc. There is also the issue that when there were simply one or two police traffic wardens it was easy to park on yellow lines with impunity while visiting business premises. Now there are an army of attendants to catch you out.

I can understand how he feels. As ever the Tories are the main enemy.

Next time I'm in Gosport I'll pop in and talk to him about it.

Orange book liberals are much more sensible, classical liberals in the true sense.

They should be joining UKIP if anything.
