Default Nigel on LBC this morning

I was listening to LBC (a London-based station, but you can get it nationally on digital radio now) this morning and the question was posed, "Should the UK side with the EU or with America?" For the EU, some woman came on and spoke nonsense about us having "a lot in common" with France and Germany - the "lot" turning out to be that we don't have the death penalty, whereas nasty old America has.

Then, low and behold, the chap on the phone for the "American" side of the argument was Nigel Farage. He didn't mention America much, but spoke eloquently about the erosion of British sovereignty by Brussels. He certainly is getting a good amount of media coverage compared with the last chap (what was his name?) and I for one am encouraged.

This is true.

Why do we have to take one side or the other anyway? We should try to trade and be friends with both, but always do what is best for Britain in the end.

This was probably initiated by Segolene Royal's comments:-

Clippo, you are correct - it was in response to her comments.

Mkp - I agree. I side with neither America nor (God forbid) the EU, but with British sovereignty. Call me a hopeless idealist, but there it is. Nigel said, if I remember rightly, we should be good neighbours with Europe, but not ruled by it.
