Cart before horse on climate change

The Government has put the cart before the horse, by introducing legislation on climate change without first establishing whether it even exists, UKIP Leader Nigel Farage said today (15.11.06).
Mr Farage said that the Government and the opposition had both bought into a ‘trendy theory’ without bothering with such niceties as scientific fact or proof, and were now proposing to inflict billions of pounds of costs on British industry.
“Cleaner air, a better use of resources, and care for the environment are all admirable goals, but should not be the object of this type of hysteria-driven compulsion.
“Without scientific evidence, the Government is just taking a shot in the dark. It is perfectly possible that its climate change measures will prove counter-productive in the long run. After all, the environmental scare in the 1970’s was global cooling, and the causes then were carbon emissions too.”
