Very good performance - but why am I finding out about it here, on what Nigel would, I believe, call an "amateurish chatroom", rather than UKIP.ORG? :twisted:

Couldn't manage to get this to fast forward by 1 hour, but the discussion about the surveillance society in the first hour is good stuff. Then a good discussion about Brown, Geldof and the like as messiahs of development. Then about the Saddam trial.

Nigel interview very good.

Nigel was, as always, an excellent performer in front of the cameras. I noticed that he nearly lost it when money and Ashford were mentioned. :roll:

Nigel is a brillaint performer. He really did shine.

He is also politically astute which is often taken for granted. I noticed he answered every question but made sure that he got across what he wanted to say first.

Must say these Doughty Street TV programmes are good - intelligent discussion in a relaxed manner - Iain Dale is a good compere.

I agree - they make a pleasant change from the hyperactive childish cr*p that passes for debate on the BBC etc these days.

Yes, I briefed the press office and Nigel on the sort of things to expect just before the interview; was pleased to see that most of the trip-ups and googlies that I predicted did come up.

I didn't spot the Ashford thing, unfortunately: I am rather new and didn't know too much about it (though I have seen mutterings). Suggest that his approach should have been that it was an experiment that worked for a bit but that swallowed up too much money after that point and, thus, has now been shut down.

Iain Dale seemed to be outraged that the £170,000 was taxpayers money. My reply would have been that those that voted for UKIP are taxpayers and that they would, I am sure, prefer that it was spent on anti-EU propaganda than on pro-EU spin.

But, generally, I thought that the interview went well and Nigel totally dominated the whole hour. Neither Dale nor his idiot co-presenter were able to lay on the punches that they no doubt hoped to. Iain's write up was, however, extremely dubious.
