Can they not be positive about it? Don't you admire the shiny pictures of ukip-bigwigs dining at the conference gala dinner? http://www.ukip.org/gallery/telfordg...ner/index.html We work hard to keep the precious beautiful, and all people can do is call us "daft". Boo Hoo  |

Hope this helps
Michael Whale (b. 13 May 1951, London, England) better known as James Whale is a British radio and television broadcaster. He has presented late night phone in programmes on UK radio for several decades, starting on Metro Radio in Newcastle upon Tyne where he was the original presenter of the Nightowls Late Evening Phone-In show from the station's launch date in 1974. He later moved to Radio Aire in Leeds (which was also simulcast with Red Rose Radio from Preston - both being part of the same group, Transworld, owned by Owen Oyston), and at one time his radio programme was televised simultaneously as 'The James Whale Radio Show' on late night ITV. James's guests became legendary, including Margaret from Beeston, Alice from Chickenly and Umberton, who himself became a presenter on Real Radio Yorkshire. James has hosted a regular phone-in show on talkSPORT from Sunday to Thursday since 1995. Whale is dyslexic and makes no secret of this. In 2000, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and announced on air why he would be leaving. He survived, but claims it has affected his outlook on life. He has been married to Melinda Whale since 1970, and has 2 children, James and Peter. James has won three Sony Radio Awards. He has also written a book "Bald on Top" inspired by his own premature hair loss. A special mention has to go to Ash, his long suffering producer, engineer, telephonist, quasi co-presenter and tea-boy. "Ash" plays these roles with a dry sense of humour to add to the entertainment value of the James Whale Show. He has a lot of friends in the music and entertainment industry and in politics. He can call upon them to be his guests. The diversity of his shows can come as a surprise. James has a knack of being able to get the best from a guest, whether they be a powerful statesman or deranged madman. James has a vast mixture of right and left wing views. Having suffered from kidney cancer James set up a charity in 2006, the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer, to fund research and raise awareness of the condition and to carry out political lobbying. As part of this he is developing the James Whale network where sufferers or their carers can contact the Fund and ask to speak to someone who has experience of kidney cancer. Contact with the charity and donations can be made via the website at [1]. Contents [hide] 1 2008 London Mayoral Election 2 Regular discussions on The James Whale Show 3 Trivia 4 References [edit] 2008 London Mayoral Election After interviewing UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage on his TalkSport show, James Whale announced that he hopes to run for election as UKIP candidate in the 2008 London Mayoral Election. Nigel Farage said that Whale "not only has guts, but an understanding of what real people think".[1]. [edit] Regular discussions on The James Whale Show Current affairs Raëlism - Since interviewing a senior Raëlian on his show, Whale has shown ironic interest in the cult. Religion - He believes that organised religion causes more harm than good. That being said he has regular guests from all religious denominations and faiths to whom he allows time to preach on air, e.g. a fire and brimstone preacher who sings sweet Christian songs whilst telling us we are all going to burn in Hell. The BBC - Whale disagrees with the licence fee and claimed not to have a television or a licence, and whenever a television show was mentioned he would claim to have watched it at an electronics shop. However it turns out that he avoids detection, due to his wife having both. Immigration - To make amusing right-wingers phone complaining about Islam and asylum seekers Speed cameras and parking fines Paranormal activity - regular interviews with experts in fields such as UFOs, unconventional archaeology and ghosts. Conspiracy Theorist David Icke is a regular guest. James is also a close friend of Uri Geller, who has been a guest on the show several times, and Derek Acorah. The Men's Health Forum - The show features a regular slot promoting the importance of men's health. Conspiracies: interview with Alex Jones and David Shayler James Whale has also announced he will be running for the position of London mayor. [edit] Trivia In the late 1990s, Whale would occasionally merge his radio show with the equally outspoken Tom Leykis Show from the United States, which aired in the same time slot, resulting in a single simulcast show co-hosted by Whale and Leykis via a satellite link between the two studios. In these cases, Whale and Leykis would alternate equally between British and American callers. Strongly speculated to appear in the 2006 series of ITVs Im a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Extract above from Wickpedia and other sources. He is supposed to be very anti monarchy but I have only seen third party comment on this |

UKIP is almost certainly jumping the gun on this. Have they made the announcement to force his hand? If so it could quite possibly have the reverse effect and send him running, once the realities of being involved with a political party become apparent.
Whale would probably have to give up his job as a broadcaster, just as RKS left the Evening Standard (?). I can't see his employers allowing him to run a self promoting radio show, so he would be risking his salary. It might not be so bad if he ran as an independent - that would be good publicity for the radio programme. My money is on this idea collapsing and UKIP looking embarrassed at announcing it too early. This looks pretty definitive: http://www.ukip.org/ukip_news/gen12.php?t=1&id=2687 Quote:

Well worth the attempt but a professional organisation shouldn't make announcements before they are confirmed. Nevertheless I hope I am wrong. Richard |

I think Anthony is right. I'm pretty sure his employers won't allow him to continue broadcasting if he stands for UKIP in the London Mayoral Election. Where's his money going to come from? Not from UKIP that's for sure.
