Default Angry letter about lack of coverage for UKIP in Telegraph

The following letter – from G. Hoffman of Stafford - was published in the Sunday Telegraph edition of 15.10.2006:

I am most disappointed that your report on the UKIP conference in Telford was confined to just two sentences and 28 words in total (news, 8.10.2006) . In view of the serious misgivings of countless people in this country over europe, surely the policies of UKIP deserve proper publicity.

Default Coverage and advertising in newspapers

They need to remember that a fair proportion of their readers vote UKIP in EU Elections. Of the 630, 000 people who voted UKIP at last year's General Election, at least 150, 000 of those must be Telegraph readers. That's about one in six readers of the Telegraph.

And the Telegraph are quite happy to take UKIP money for election advertising (as they did in the EU Election of 2004).

I notice that newspapers tend to report UKIP better when they are receiving money from UKIP for election advertising. The moment the advertising money stops coming in - the coverage of UKIP mostly dries up.

They printed the letter though, which was rather more than 28 words. I took that printing as a very minor act of contrition on their part. As Britannist says a lot of readers vote UKIP.
