Default NEC report

http://www.ukip.org/ukip_news/gen12.php?t=1&id=2678

Quote:
National conference
There was general agreement that the national conference in Telford had been a success. The decision was taken not to hold the 2007 conference in Scarborough as previously planned. A venue that would be more appropriate for media coverage would be sought, probably in London, and the conference held over Friday/Saturday rather than Saturday/Sunday. Godfrey Bloom has kindly accepted the task of co-ordinator for the 2007 conference.
Thought that would happen.

Quote:
Elections
Steve Allison suggested a target to contest 1000 Council seats in the local elections next year and outlined his plans for achieving this. Regarding the Welsh Assembly elections next year, the NEC resolved that UKIP should fight constituency seats where a suitable candidate is available, in addition to the list seats. This reverses a previous NEC decision.
Thought that would happen.

Current members of the National Executive are
David Abbott, David Campbell Bannerman (Deputy Leader, co-opted), Gerard Batten, Alan Bown, Elizabeth Burton, Douglas Denny, Nigel Farage (Leader), Linda Guest, Bruce Lawson (Treasurer, ex officio), Bryan McCormack, Rachel Oxley (Deputy Chairman), John Whittaker (Chairman), Michael Zuckerman (Party Secretary).
Deputy leaders get co-opted on now?

Isn'it ******************************************* Marvellous.

The last time we had the conference in Scarborough we gained members because of it. We were going to try the tactics again next year.

Now to have the rug pulled.

Just as well we have not spent anything.

I think number of people turning up at Telford put paid to Scarborough.

That + the media are more easily involved in Laaaaaandon.

Does this decision mean there will be more candidates or fewer candidates than previously intended? The inference is that there will be more but it doesn't actually state that.

The original intention was to run a 'lend us your vote' campaign and only run in the list system, and not in the FPTP areas. The idea was that people would then use their second vote to support UKIP, many perhaps seeing it as a protest vote while also being able to vote for their normal party too.

Now UKIP will stand in every seat, so yes there will be more candidates, but I would think that it decreases the odds of having anyone elected.

Do all of the other parties have there conference in London.

I don't believe this ******** about having to be in London to get media attention we have been there and didn't get anymore coverage than we do now.

If UKIP was newsworthy they could be in Timbuktu and get press coverage.

I've got this great idea lets put the conference in the most expensive and most congested city in England stuff them people up north.

The attendance was much higher in London, and London is a relatively easy place to get to from all over the UK. Telford lost a lot of money and had no national journalists attending.
