FFS - be grateful for 4 minutes on national TV - lets not act like LibDems and count every bloody second.

Farage no more needs to be seen sitting on a sofa next to Barroso than Blair and Cameron would want to be seen on the same sofa exchanging small talk. Especially when their jobs are to oppose, fight and attack each other.
The PM and leader of the opposition commonly engage in small-talk at meetings - and in public as seen as the state opening of Parliament. US Presidents and USSR leaders engaged in "small-talk" for the cameras at summits to discuss how many missiles they would point at each other. Ditto Arabs and Israelis.

Default UKIP members paying to keep useless pro-EU BBC afloat

Grateful  ? There are 600, 000 people who voted UKIP in last year's General Election who are paying those europhiles at the BBC the television licence every year. That's a sizeable part of the BBC income.

In view of the fact that most parts of England have at least one UKIP MEP, the BBC should be giving UKIP more coverage than 4 minutes early on a Sunday morning.

I wonder when someone from UKIP will get 4 minutes on 'Sunday AM' again - not for a very long time I suspect. In the meantime, europhiles will get whole big chunks of airtime.

Default Job is to oppose them - not sit next to them

The PM and leader of the opposition do not sit together informally on a sofa at the end of a television political chat show. Beginning and end of story.

Nigel Farage should not be seen sitting next to a creep like Barroso. His job is to face him in opposition and vilify him for everything he stands for.

Anyway, I think Nigel and team have a good case for demanding some recompense before too long.

(Let's hope also he can get on ITV and Sky.)

Fair play to Nigel he made full use of the time he was allowed and put on a masterful performance.

Barroso and Hain were given much longer because they have power, and the BBC knows that however much the ten UKIP MEPs stamp their feet, they are not going to change anything in the EU.

So UKIP needs to get more power.

There is no way it can win seats at a general election until it has built up its power base locally, and that will take a long time. At the next general election all the effort should be confined to 20 to 30 marginal seats irrespective of the attitude of the enemy candidates to BOO. Standing hundreds of candidates just to get a party election broadcast is a massive waste of resources including all those lost deposits. Posters in the right gardens will be seen by more people than see a UKIP broadcast, and therefore are far more effective.

But the tragedy is that no matter how good Nigel comes over on TV, the Party doesn't have the organisation to back him up, and he has proved over the years that he knows nothing about what it takes in manpower, money, motivation and strategy. Comparing results with money spent shows that more money does not equal more votes. It is the right policies for the particular constituency or ward that matter.

I would say:

Key seats need maximum effort, but standing in most seats is probably well worthwhile (if we can afford it and can find candidates) even with lost deposits.

Local issues not normally as important as the national mood/issues.

TV exposure is crucial.

Money is vital - made a big difference in 2004.

On the BOO issue I'm not sure, but looks like we will have to leave this to Nigel's judgment - he may or may not prove canny on this.

Don't normally watch this show but made an exception this morning. Thought Nigel was very good (as usual) but didn't watch after his slot, we went out and delivered 1,200 leaflets instead. Think Nigel's decision to contest local elections is very sensible, I hope EVERY MEMBER of UKIP who is on this forum is ALREADY campaigning for a local authority seat in 2007. As regars BOO I have no problem with UKIP standing aside for GENUINE, COMMITTED AND ACTIVE BOO Candidates who can prove their anti-EU Credentials well in advance of any election. I would NOT stand aside for any candidate who joined BOO in the run up to a General Election as this would almost certainly only happen if a sitting MP thought his or her chances were being damaged by UKIP and so signing BOO would get rid of the threat and once back in Parliament and safe for another 4 to 5 years then they can change their mind.

UKIP Press Release

Quote:
Nigel Farage, the new leader of the UKIP, appeared at 9am on Sunday in London as principal guest on the Andrew Marr programme, and by 2pm was in Lanivet in Cornwall before an audience of 150 enthusiastic supporters and guests.

The Lanivet meeting (Sunday 15th October) had been arranged well in advance, and when the invitation to appear on the BBC1 programme arose, Nigel nevertheless guaranteed to be at Lanivet as promised. With no helicopter at his disposal, Nigel took the London train to Newton Abbot and thence by car to Lanivet – just in time!................

All the speculation on posts here now sorted.
