Nigel had much longer than Bozo though.

I though he looked an utter tit (Bozo not Nigel). Perhaps I am biased though.

Default Farage and the end of the 'Sunday AM' programme

So you would have liked to see him on the BBC 'Sunday AM' sofa? I bet the europhile BBC producers would have relished the chance to have Nigel Farage seen having a friendly chat with Barroso. If Nigel Farage was offered the 'opportunity' to appear at the end of the programme I hope he turned it down if the BBC had insisted that Barroso and the europhile Hain would also be there.

On a separate point, Barroso got 8 minutes to speak in favour of the EU (10 minutes if you include the end of the broadcast) and Hain got 2 minutes to praise the EU. So that's 12 minutes for speakers in favour of the EU and 4.13 minutes for Mr. Farage against the EU.

UKIP really does now need to protest to the BBC about this blatant bias and lack of balance.

Bozo had more time and the last word, totally unchallenged.

Nigel would have done UKIP and himself no harm sitting on the sofa - smiling while telling Barroso what he thinks of him and his project.

I recorded and timed both interviews - Barroso got 8 minutes (plus 2 minutes at the end). Nigel Farage got 4 minutes and 13 seconds, including the introduction by Huw Edwards.

The unprincipled political opportunist Hain also got a couple of minutes to make his usual europhile rant.

Europhiles were given THREE TIMES as much time as Mr. Farage to air their views in the broadcast.

Default Nigel Farage avoids BBC stunt

The fact that the BBC gave Barroso the last word is appalling and is grounds for an official complaint. However, Nigel Farage - if he was asked - was right not to participate in such a shameful stunt (typical of the europhile BBC which has received a loan from an EU Agency). He would have had Barroso and Hain against him and it could have ruined any good that has come from his interview at the start of the programme.

It would not look good for Mr. Farage to be seen by UKIP members and the general public sitting on a sofa next to the man (Barroso) we are all fighting chatting like friends as if they were on 'Richard and Judy'.

Can't agree with that. Nigel could have reserved any pleasantries for others present, and put Barroso straight with half a dozen words in the style he used against Blair if necessary.

What is for certain is that Nigel would have got the better of it no matter how many europhiles were on the set.

Default Good intro for Mr. Farage and UKIP

I've posted the full text of the interview somewhere else in this section so you can read the bits you've missed.

Huw Edwards (who presented the programme in the absence of Andrew Marr) gave a very good introduction to Mr. Farage and respectful references to UKIP. The end of the programme (Barroso and Hain) was exactly the reverse.

Fortunately most people would not have had a clue what Barroso was on about. But the BBC were still biased in not challenging Barroso on so many points including his claim that the EU gives £40 to 'the peace processs' in Northern Ireland. Barroso should have been asked if it was fair that the UK gives twice as much money to the EU as it gets back.

If he'd been given the chance. These things are carefully set up - haven't you heard of "I'm sorry that's all we've got time for" as a way of silencing eurosceptics and anti-EU people on television programmes.

Farage no more needs to be seen sitting on a sofa next to Barroso than Blair and Cameron would want to be seen on the same sofa exchanging small talk. Especially when their jobs are to oppose, fight and attack each other.
