Default Nigel's take on the NEC.

Quote:
I think we have to recognise that we've had a national executive committee in place for the last 13 years and that it's never really worked. You know the idea that 15 or 16 people can meet on one monday afternoon a month and through that forum run a national political party frankly is nonsense. It simply can't be.

I want the NEC to be effectively the management board of the party, to be the place where our executive officers who are out there doing their jobs come back and report back once a month

I want the NEC to see the work that is going on, to judge the work that is going on, to approve the work that is going on and if necessary, act as a check and balance on the work that is going on.

....If you go to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ you will find a handy little gizmo that translates backwards and forwards in about a dozen languages.
....Out of curiosity I pasted the above extract from Nigel's speech into it, clicked the button to translate politispeek into English and it came back with....

...."I want the NEC to do as I say".

Must be a fault in the gizmo I reckon.

That (the quote) was his stated vision for the NEC before the election and he is sticking to it after the election. The info was there for all to read if they wanted to. The politispeek translation sounds pretty accurate to me BTW.

Yep he promised to turn the NEC from highest authority, into a rubber stamp and that is what he has done.

Can't say he isn't fufilling his pledges so far.

This is democracy. Whether you like it or not (and I don't) Nigel got more votes than the other candidates.
