Default Move over Nigel - Gerrard rules.

Having seen the excellent performance of young Gerrard Batten on TV tonight - all I can say is move over Nigel.

Gerrards got a better chance of getting to be our first MP or even PM.

No squinty eyes, no N-O-W baggage, trustworthy, more socialist than Tory, trusted family man, somebody you would happily buy a car from, charming, inteligent, charismatic, a man of integrity who ouzes charisma.

Which means his days are numbered within the party.

Gerrard for King.

I doubt he would thank you for saying that.

Most people have a bit of socialist in them, otherwise they would be heartless inhumane bar stewards.

Just like a cake though, a dash of salt can make it, a load of it will kill it.

Default Gerard Batten on Newsnight

Gerard Batten, the London UKIP member of the EU ‘Parliament’ appeared on Newsnight on BBC 2 Television from 10.49 pm to 11 pm (today 6.10.2006) to discuss the controversy over the remarks of Jack Straw (who said that he asked females of the Islamic faith to remove the veil from their face when the attended his surgery at Blackburn to meet him for advice).

A summary of what was said:

Lindsey German (‘Stop the War’ coalition – i.e. leftist pro-multi-cultural organisation opposed to the ‘war’ in Iraq) “Anti-Muslim racism is the last respectable racism in europe.”

Nigel Griffiths (pro-EU Scottish Labour MP) “People are not comfortable looking at the veil.”

Gerard Batten MEP (UKIP London) stated “Multi-culturalism is the problem. Jack Straw MP (leader of the House of Commons) is getting cold feet about multi-culturism. Everyone should live in a secular society and share a common identity. My party believes in individual liberty. We wouldn’t dream of telling people what to wear.”

Shelina Janmohamed (blogger on ‘Spirit121’) said “Straw has decided to grab the veil and make it a point of division in this month of Ramadan.”

Gerard Batten MEP (UKIP London) replied “I find it difficult to understand why a woman wants to wear a veil. I can’t have a proper conversation with someone whose face is covered. This is a backwards step to the dark ages.”

Shelina Janmohamed (blogger on ‘Spirit121’) commented “You talk to people on the ‘phone and can’t see them at all.”

Gerard Batten MEP (UKIP London) stated “I worked for 30 years in the commercial sector before becoming an MEP. I could not imagine having had to have a conversation during that time with women whose faces were hidden. I cannot get to know a colleague properly if the face is covered. We have Catholic and Protestant schools – but that is a historical fact. Like alcohol if it was being introduced now, we would have to ban religious schools if they were being set up today for the first time. My son goes to a Roman Catholic school where the majority of pupils are black. But the school is a religious separation. Muslim schools would be (and are) separated on race.”

Mr. Safraz Manzoor (author) pointed out “It is not the fault of Muslims if the school becomes at least 50% Muslim and then all the whites leave.”

Lindsey German said “Enoch Powell scared people (with his opposition to immigration in the late 1960’s and 1970’s). Politicians are scaring people now. I’ve just attended a social event at which only one Muslim female had her face covered.”

Less fierce now.

I think Antoine needs to put a reasonable size limit on it though. There doesn't seem to be one.
