UKIP ran it's most intensive campaign ever there, with support that will never be seen outside a byelection again.

So that says something to me. Either UKIP has a message that is so wrong and out of touch with people, that it barley registers. Or UKIP has such a poor image on a national level, that it doesn't really matter what you do at a local level.

I rest my case.
Of course, you may also consider that the UKIP groundwork prior to the Bromley and Chiselhurst by-election was barely, if at all, noticeable. You cannot go from near-silence to a crescendo in a month and expect people to rally around you. The LibDems focus on YEAR-ROUND campaigning so they reap what they sow. The national image hardly enters it, just ask the BNP councillors in the East End of London.

A lesson for us all.

M davies says.... " I rest my case" .

Actually at Bromley , " making the UKIP case" was deliberately not in the strategy and hence UKIP made no attempt to explain its case on the EU or anything else , under the premise " the public are already converted ... we just need to point them where to vote ". Hence it concentrated on posters and media emphasising that all other parties are the same , & only UKIP stands for .... then a list of 3 or 4 items.

Maybe time for UKIP to start making its case.
