Default Gill Chant resigns

Resignation statement.

Unlike the UKIP 'establishment', a substantial number of the members of UKIP realise that there is something very wrong with the party. I , with some others on the NEC, tried to do something about it. We failed.

One popular anti- EU slogan is 'Better Off Out'. I feel this applies to my continuing membership of the NEC, as I have no confidence in the future of UKIP with Nigel Farage as leader. He likes the slogan 'UKIP- The Real Opposition'. However, my experience of the NEC tells me that surreal is a better description of the upper tier of UKIP.

I can no longer support this inept and bizarre organisation which has so singularly failed its dedicated grassroots. And may, if it carries on as before, damage the anti-EU movement.

Gill Chant
I believe that she has resigned both from the NEC and the party.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement.

Can't say it's a statement that really conveys the alleged central problem clearly to me. (We all know that not everything is perfect.)

She can't work with Nigel, for whatever reasons and doesn't feel able to support him.

That being the case, she's done the right thing. That way she can move on and work on things she does believe in and Nigel can get a fresher team in who will not have the same issues, thus he can implement his plan without undue hinderance.

I agree. Better for her to leave, than carry on without her heart being in it.
Unlike the other parties, we have people with courage and principle.

I am sorry she feels such despair, i personally feel quite optimistic.

Who will replace her? Presumably the next person on the list of the last NEC elections?

More will follow, with the result of the election less than three days ago, others will be making decisions over this weekend I'm sure.We cant afford to lose them but if they feel similar to GC not much good could be gained from them toughing it out. However, should the situation change soonish with NF then they may regret throwing in the towel so soon.

Mondays NEC Meeting should or could be interesting and revealing.

Nobody can say for certain what NF will do now that he is Leader.

Bring proof if you think you can say what he will do,because without proof it may just look like sour grapes to some.

Farage is the elected Leader of UKIP,he,and UKIP have many enemies, and,as far as I'm concerned, the enemies of UKIP are also the enemies of our Country,we must now solidly support our Leader,UKIP and of course, our Country.

Little UKIP still has a huge mountain to climb but we can do it if we want to.

As someone who voted for Ms.Chant in the NEC Elections I must say I am dissapointed in her, in the tone and in the timing of her resignation. Throwing her toys out of the pram because her man didn't win isn't the way to improve things.

Mr.Farage has been leader less than a week. His first real test is the NEC meeting on Monday. Hopefully he will unveil his chosen Chairman and the team he will be bringing in. Once this team is in place then we should see where and how they intend to take UKIP over the next four years. Ms.Chant would have had her opportunity as an NEC Member to question the new team and make her comments. She has thrown away that opportunity by her resignation.

Mr.Farage has already said he wants to fight elections and I support this platform wholeheartedly. However, this needs two things, candidates and funding. Without these there can be no campaigns. We must also be clever about which elections we fight. The campaign for the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament should already have been runing for several months, unfortunately I don't see much (any?) evidence that thery have, we don;t even appear to have adopted any candidates yet? The same for the 2007 locals, how many candidates are in place already?

I recommend a book by Paul Richards "How to win an Election" (Published by Politico's Publishing ISBN 1 84275 100 X) which has as one of its central themes that elections are no longer about campaigns but are about building relationships with the electorate, campaigns that last 6 weeks will rarely, if ever, win elections, it is a long term relationship over many months and years that wins elections.

Gill Chant's resignation is based on principle and well done her for that. How many time in recent years have we all said 'what do you need to do in politics to resign these days'.
Gill KNOWS she can not work with Nigel so she has gone.
Nigel now has to prove he can deliver I give him 100 days. if I then resume the offensive just remember NOBODY is bigger than the Party and the cause.

How can you judge a person in just 100 days.

You have to give him at least a year, otherwise people will just think you are in this to cause trouble.
