Under the constutution, choosing a candidate from the approved list for a constituency is a branch responsibility, although the leader can refer the candidate to the NEC in appropriate conditions (unspecified)...

If branches are determined to field candidates, and candidates on the approved list apply, then the executuive may have a battle on their hands...

Independent UKIP has some supporters

The Better Off Out website says Spink is a supporter but he is not on their list of supporters which is a bit weird.

The MP for Harwich, Douglas Carswell is a supporter. And of course the UKIP candidate in Harwich has been Jeffrey Titford. I don't know if he is intending to stand for parliament again but if he is Harwich is off limits now to him or anyone else in UKIP. I wonder what he thinks of that?

Also off limits to UKIP (subject to those MPs standing for election again) are Shipley, Kettering, Great Grimsby, Congleton & Macclesfield. UKIP didn't stand in 3 of those in the 2005 election.

I think being in the trouble maker camp is a badge I would wear with pride.

Abit like getting an ASBO really!

"Firstly, speaking as a trades unionist, the "Freedom Association" has a nasty, far right history." NASTY?

Surely you should be as free Not to join a union and not compelled to do so?

He is a firm supporter and spoke at the press launch.

That was very clear from Farage before and has been reinforced by him now he is leader.
In the real world that is known as committing suicide.

I have no intention of voting for the Conservative Party even if any of their Candidates are signed up to BOO. Others factors about the Tory Party, overall, cause me to make that decision.

If UKIP are stupid enough not to give voters like me the chance to vote for them because of a weird loyalty to BOO signaturies, then we'll vote for somebody else.

I'm trying to see possible merits in Nigel's argument on this but struggling.

And why is it one of first things he talks about as leader?

He said it at all the hustings.

If people didn't pay attention, then that's tough. He has a mandate.

True, and it was a negative in relation to NF, but I still can't understand the purpose of it even from NF's perspective.

That seems far-fetched given the scale of the personal effort involved over such a long period, and the damage UKIP has done/will continue to do to the Tories in the forseeable future. (If you want to damage UKIP there would have to be much easier ways of doing it??)

Agreed though he still seems to believe beneath the surface that UKIP is most likely to succeed in its primary objective through forcing change on the Tories.
