Default It already feels like old Labour

IN response to Ms Lubin's request for the return of old Labour, I thought we had it already!

We have seen billions wasted on such projects as the envy of the world, yes the Dome; we have seen equipment purchased, like Chinook helicopters, costing hundreds of millions and not even fit to fly - ever. We also have seen an open door policy on immigration, which will be the downfall of this country (Mr Powell must be turning in his grave) and we have seen millions wasted on hospital PFIs.

Since 1997 we have seen an increase in government workers that verges on being indecent, I think there are now more spin doctors at work than there are real doctors. Since '97 the manpower of the Armed Forces has slumped to an all time low with thousands of vacancies not filled, the proportion of spending on the Armed Forces with regard to our national income is the lowest since 1930.

John Major was slated for members' sleaze and yet since '97 it has gone on unchecked and those responsible, like Peter Mandelson, have all ended up with top jobs, either in government or the EU.

The House of Lords was almost shut down by Mr Blair because he didn't like hereditary peers, but give a few bob and you'll be in quicker than you can say backhander.

We are told this government is doing its bit for greenhouse gases, yet when a planning application was submitted in Sedgefield, to build a wind turbine, one of the first people to object was the Prime Minister's agent. Try to find a British manufacturing unit still doing its bit for the country.

I wonder if Mr Warner will tell us if personal allowances will be frozen again this year for the fourth year running - and he claims no great tax rises! The Prime Minister is quick to offer public enquiries for a quick gimmick, but will not have one for such as the 7/7 outrage or the death of Dr Kelly.

No, I am afraid, Ms Lubin, your welcome to the old Labour, with a bit of luck and the perseverance of Mr Scott, the UKIP will win the day and Britain will return to its old self and run itself.

Perhaps she can explain why Wales is prescription free and England is not?

T REYNOLDS.
