Its nothing to do with Knapman's record , its a test of UKIP starting to get real on infiltrating the political process & by passing the zilch prospect of getting an MP. To put it crudely, the choice is another £80,000 on getting 3.5% ish of the total elctorate at the next by election a la Bromley ot spneding the same money on lobbyists to get a result.
Maybe UKIP prefers the turn on of glory in defeat. |

WTF? Have UKIP ditched its principles and wants to spend its time trying to become more and more like the established main parties? How sleazy and establishment like that UKIP are seriously considering going with a begging bowl demanding a peerage for our glorious leader!
UKIP is for democracy - exactly what is our policy on the House of Lords? Do we want it elected or do we want to fill it with unelected unaccountable yesterdasy failed politicians? We should ditch this ridiculous suggestion to make Knapman a peer. We should campaign for a democratically elected upper chamber. Chuck these idea into the nearest bin where they belong. Our political enemies will use this to show we are just like any other political party only after the crock of gold at the end of the greasy pole! |

Therefore we will be hypocrites - preach one thing to the general public - vote for us we want a fully elected House of Lords - but do another - campaign to get Knapman a peerage!
Do you see the Green Party driving gas guzzling 4x4s because they are not in power? To gain respectability you must have principles and fight for them - you may be right or wrong but you keep your principles... ...otherwise we become just like the bunch of sleazy scum that run the show now. Is that really what we want? |

Had this been the case from the beginning of this government's tenure, surely [as the political parties would be heavily involved in the election process] New Labour, already voted in on a paltry share of the vote, would have a commanding majority in the H of L's making it more easy for them to have their destructive legislation approved by the Upper Chamber. If this had been the case the Scottish Parliament would not only be given control of the English stretches of the Tweed by now, but also the rest of the nation. |

If there is the possibilty of a peerage for UKIP and it has been a topic for conversation amongst those in the know for a long time ,why not nominate Alan Bown?
He has never put a foot wrong as far as the party is concerned ,has been a loyal supporter ,has stumped up through thick and thin and would behave with propriety if "elevated" to the peerage .I can think of others who may be a little too impressed with themselves if they found themselves in that house . UKIP has alwys prided itself on breaking the mould so why put a professional politician in there ? |
