Different issue - Blair wants to give NI to Ireland at some stage and wouldn't want peers sitting in the HoL after unification.

Thanks for the correction. In that case there should be some small hope for UKIP having a peer. My inaccurate assertion was made after looking here: http://www.parliament.uk/directories...omposition.cfm which does not mention the DUP, the 3 peers mentioned above are described as Non afiliated.

Not long ago there was a DUP UKIP Alliance thread.

If We got a Peer (no, not a pee'r) Here is a place in which there could be serious co-operation a small group making sure there would be proposers & seconders for motions etc and to take pressure off just 2 or three.

Could be a major breakthrough.

Cant see Blair allowing it though.

Why does Knapman deserve a peerage? For the 10 anonymous years he spent as MP for Stroud? For the 2 years he has spent squandering time in the European Parliament? For the 4 years he has spent fronting a political party bereft of representation in the House Of Commons and registers single figure percentage points in terms of public support?

Why did Neil Kinnock, why do any of them?

Firstly all of you, we know these things aren't fair under Labour .

Secondly on a fair assesment Knapman doesn't deserve a peerage. Hissum total of political achievements include: being bought over Maasrticht with a 3rd whip slot, Losing a safe Tory seat and riding Nigel Farage to the leadership of UKIP and riding Robert Kilroy-Silk to a seat in the European Parliament. Sorry, he would struggle if he made a £1m donation to the Labour Party.

Are political acheivements the only benchmark anyway?

Kinnock didn't acheive anything in any of the roles he had, yet he is a lord.

Knapman doesn't deserve a peerage but it would be to our advantage for him to receive one.
