http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Party_(UK)_leadership_election,_2005# Results Lib Dems managed 72% http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal...C_2006#Results From what I understand of the Labour election back in 1994 which placed Blair as leader, it is not possible to calculate a turnout as ballots are done at branch level. Not sure, seems quite a complicated system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_(UK)_leadership_election,_1994 |

I suspect that part of the answer is that quite a large proportion of the 5 year membership people have lost interest but haven`t bothered to quit .
I estimate that there are about 10,000 active members so the tally for voting will probably be about 65-70% of those .Not bad . |

Any election will have a surge in voting when polls open, then another surge just before they close. Over 6,000 people have voted already; a lot more will have voted by close of nominations.
I've only just sent my ballot paper off, because I wanted to be 100% certain that I was voting for the right candidate. |
