Default The fairness of the leadership election.

With all the shenanigans going on who on the this forum believes the leadership election is being conducted fairly?

In my opinion it is not.

As a former returning officer for UKIP elections, I have to say that there is nothing more irksome than vague and unsubstantiated grumbles about the electoral process. I would always demand a specific complaint in writing, stating which rules were allegedly being broken and with supporting evidence where appropriate. Anything less is simply an unhelpful exercise in undermining the probity of the election process.

This wasn't meant to be anything other than a gut feel survey to see what forum people were thinking. I don't see anything wrong with that. This forum is surely for the exchange of views. :-)

Does a request in writing from two of the four candidates, backed by a solcitor's opinion, count?

I would have thought so  but are you talking about the conduct of the election or the conduct of a candidate? Two very different things.

The two are surely linked how can you seperate the two if one of the candidates appears to have the full backing of the UKIP establishment. :-(

The returning officer must be and must be seen to be above such things. All candidates must be treated equally. Any who break the rules must be dealt with exactly the same regardless of how mighty they may be within the party structure.

Of course, any returning officer who acts according to this ethos will not last long in UKIP (eg Craig Mackinlay [2004 NEC election] and myself [2003 MEP list election]).

So what are you saying now exactly??

Do I assume you do have your doubts about the probity of these leadership elections? :-(

According to the DT, yesterday, most post offices were confused about the correct size envelopes!
