Immigration must be restricted before Britain agrees to allow Bulgaria and Romania to join the EU, the UK Independence party (Ukip) has argued.

Ukip leader Roger Knapman condemned the main political parties as hypocritical for supporting accession but "trying to distance themselves from its immigration effects".

He said the "only answer" was to veto accession for Romania and Bulgaria – expected to take place in January 2007 – unless limits on immigration were guaranteed.

Britain should also tighten its borders for immigrants from other EU countries, said Mr Knapman.

He added: “With no proper immigration controls in place, and our borders leaking like a sieve, both Labour and the Tories are demanding restrictions on immigration from some, but not all, EU nations.

“How do they propose to do this in practice? It is soundbite politics at its worst, and treats the electorate like fools."

No it isn't the only answer. The only REAL answer is to pull out of the EU!
