Eddie Stobart tried that, went from 1600 trucks (UK), to 400(uk)and 800 Belgian, they are now down to 200 UK trucks.
Road duty is not payable on foreign vehicles. All other duties/ taxes are.
In practice our laws/ penalties are not enforced as our Glorious leaders are quite happy to allow foreign vehicles to flout our laws whilst paying no tax, fuel duty or road fund licence. In addition to this they cause 15% of road accidents and 6% of road fatalities in the SW whilst only being 3% of vehicles on the road.
Meanwhile UK hauliers pay in excess of 60,000 PA for each Lorry to the government. just for the pleasure of delivering **** to stupid places, whilst being abused on the roads and at their delivery point.
Meet the new underclass. Drivers and haulage firms

There will be no change:These are the people who brought us operator licences ,CPCs, Tachographs, Fuel duty, speed limiters and who Spearheaded the mandatory inspection of Vehicles, Drivers records and Traffic offices in their own Gestapo like manner.

Whats the answer? railways? Canals? They still need transport from the station or docks.
I can guarantee this is a non starter as all of our Docks and freight terminals are a complete shambles. I speak as an ex container driver who spent 4 years working for Freightliner. which is even more dysfunctional than our home office.

You cant win this one.
Dunno maybe we can.
Look at the support we had at the start of the fuel protests.
When I joined UKIP I contacted people in Brussels and got a good reception for a Haulage based Branch/group, left a message for our Transport MEP and have heard nothing since.
Perhaps we should try to start a haulage, transport group and then present the powers that be with a Fait accompli !

Start a Haulage, Transport Group? Now that could be very interesting. None of the present party's policies show any interest in this industry other than taxing them even more and regulating them even more. If UKIP came up with a sensible policy and the haulage industry backed it and thus UKIP and every wagon on the road had a sticker that said "Vote UKIP" we would have real publicity. From my own experince in the Haulage industry I know that most hauliers want us out of the EU and they want Labour out of office yesterday. The problem is they see no future with the Conservatives and the Liberals are worse than the Socialists.

I have already suggested it to the powers that be and they seemed interested but i have heard nothing since. Road haulage is the most heavily taxed, over regulated industry in this country, has a large number of self employed people.
It could truly be the spearhead against the EU and the current/ future government.
I can see this and so can you but don't expect anyone in authority in our party to do anything about it.

It's a great idea.

The problem is that we would have to have UKIP's policies on transport, road building, fuel taxes, VAT, planning, etc., etc. really sorted out and clear.

This would be highly desirable but hasn't been evident in any area so far (just some reasonable but brief statements put together before a general election).

I was told Mike Natrass would be able to co-ordinate this, however heard nothing back.
Perhaps if enough people can get involved we could sort out what policies Road haulage requires and then press our policy makers to adopt them.
Sort of a pressure group on a pressure group.
I would be prepared to invest some time and money if we had support.

How about 'Truckers at UKIP'

I have already produced a position paper on fuel price rises and Fuel blockades, but this is now 6 months out of date.

I`m a lorry driver and use to run my own trucks on TIR and other international work.I now want to be out of the industry.Theres no future in it.Before I leave I would like to make the maximum amount of damage I can to the civil servants who have brought our industry down.In fact I would like to torture them to death.
I would support any well thougth out campaign you get going.Only so far hairdressers seem to look after their industry better than the macho road haulage industry. We cant look to the RHA or FTA,who are like front organisations for the Transport ministry,or the unions, who live in the 1970s.If you read their publications the words international or foreign are even printed.A continent 22 miles from Dover with hauliers with lower taxes and other overheads doesnt register with them.

OK Let's start the ball rolling.

1. Anyone who feels that they have a positive imput to what we think should be UKIP's Road Transport policy to prepare a paper outling his / her proposals.
2. Proposal Papers to be prepared by August 31st 2006.
3. Proposal Papers to be posted somehere on this site (Any one have the know how on how to do this?) on September 1st 2006.
4. Allow the month of September for the proposals to be studied (Contributors only) and then post comments on October 1st 2006.
If all the above comes about then it should be possible to hold a meeting in mid October to decide what we would want to see UKIP proposing.

Any takers?

Count me in.

The EU have used us as Guinea pigs in order to discover how far the British could be pushed. We have far exceeded their wildest hopes.

I am sure that this small group could provide UKIP some insights into an Industry that only insiders know well enough. And provided the party listens and produce haulage friendly policies, It could produce a vocal and potentially massive support base.
