Default UKIP Candidate Takes Third Place in Enfield By-election

The UK Independence Party Candidate in the Enfield by-election yesterday (10.8.06) came third, with the Liberal Democrats relegated to 5th place, in a hard fought campaign.

UKIP candidate, Madge Jones said, "It was particularly satisfying to beat the Lib Dems in this ward, especially as they were also beaten by the local campaign group, Save Chase Farm, who already hold two council seats".

"The support that I received from party activists from across London was wonderful", she said, "and their work has made this result possible".

This illustrates once again that the UK Independence Party is rapidly becoming a serious force in British politics.

The full result was as follows:

Madeline Jones (UKIP) 174 votes
Matthew Laban (Conservative) 877 votes
Derek Levy (Labour) 874 votes
William Linton (Green) 51 votes
David Peters (Liberal Democrats) 77 votes
Sujal Saveri (Save Chase Farm) 133 votes
Nice result Madeline. Looks like a Labour vs Tory slugfest, but UKIP beating the Lib Dems is good, as well as the Greens.

My strategy in this ward would be the vocal opponents of the Chase Farm closure and attack the party in 2nd Place - Labour - I would also put out in all leaflets - 'THE LIBDEMS CAN'T WIN HERE'.

There should be put out in 2 or 3 weeks time a Thankyou leaflet - Major article UKIP being 3rd and LibDems being consigned to the political dustbin with 5th place! Should have a membership form on the other side - with also a petition on a local issue! - everybody who replies should then get a letter thanking them and including a petition sheet of 10 or 12 signatures for them to complete and return!

Just a thought to keep things moving in this area!
